Tons of New Kelvin Info! (Including crew pics)

Depending on what metaphors the design team and JJ have in mind. I've argued elsewhere here that the metaphor for the new old E is found in Uhura. In this, Uhura is young and sexy, yet classy. The curved edges and firm nacelles on the new E follow the lines of a young woman, whereas the TOS Enterprise is a more mature, but still young woman, very like Uhura was in TOS.
....

IMO, JJ and Co. are conscious of this. So, here, the design aesthetic for the E can't be tied in rote fashion to the 50's/60's aesthetic. It also has to be indexed to the way Uhura will be portrayed.

Peacemaker can find themes where the creators probably never intended them to be, but I love them :)

since the kelvin is sposeta be the opening scene of the movie does that mean the movie doesnt really start in 24th century?
That has always been fan speculation. No one involved in the film has ever suggested that the film starts in the 24th century.

But from here it says "TrekMovie.com has confirmed that the film starts in the post Star Trek Nemesis timeframe."

I'll be glad if and when we get shots of the Kelvin's lower decks and/or engine room just to see where Abrams and his team are going visually and stylistically with pre-1701 ships in this time frame.

Didn't I read somewhere that Chris Pike serves on board the Kelvin when he meets George Kirk? This is a bit problematic as in "The Cage", which takes place in 2253, Pike appears to be in his late thirties. To hazard a guess, I'd place his birth in 2215, making him eighteen in 2233, when James Kirk is born on the Kelvin. Maybe he was still a cadet?

Not a bad idea, if the plot really is going to involve Pike spiriting the newborn future hero to safety aboard a shuttlecraft. A fairly junior member of the Kelvin crew would be a likely candidate for a mission of escape...

Then again, the Pike we are going to see around the time Kirk is in his twenties, in the mid-2250s, is going to look rather older than the one we saw in "The Cage". So it would make sense for the Pike of this movie to have been born earlier than the Pike of TOS - even though this would be our first outright violation of canon, rather than something we could handwave away by saying that Nero's time-tampering changed things.

Of course, we never did learn when Pike of TOS was born. Perhaps he merely retained youthful looks in "The Cage" despite actually being in his fifties, and the new actor for the character doesn't quite repeat that feat?

Again, this is something that will become much clearer once we see the movie - and may be one of the many cases where "statements" made before the movie turn out to be misleading or completely false.
