Things You'd Liked to Have Seen in Star Trek

Just some random thoughts:
1. More TMP-era stories. Deltans, Dr. Chapel, space pajama uniforms, Megarites. That beautiful looking refit starship. Oh yeah.
2. More of the TMP era engine room, which was a fantastic set and only appeared in TMP and TWOK.
3. Earth in the TOS era (besides Mojave).
4. An explanation for the galactic barrier, and maybe an appearance in later series.
5. Gorn
6. Tholians
7. Troi being ridiculously hot, like in "Man of the People"
8. Kira's backstory
9. Helen Noel
10. Saucer separation

It should be obvious: I wanted to see Nichelle Nichols on the center seat, not her animated version.

Fair enough, but that's not what you said. ;)

You're right, and that's because Nichols will always be Uhura to me. So I guess you can call it a Freudian slip! When I say Uhura, I really mean "Nichols as Uhura". I just assumed everyone would know what I meant!

(By the way, this is NOT a knock on Zoe Saldana, who I very much enjoy in the role.)
You do realize that Nichelle Nichols voiced Uhura in The Animated Series, don't you?
It would have been nice to have had a few gay characters. Seeing as Star Trek was set a couple hundred years into the future. One would think sexual orientation would no longer be an issue. Though all the shows were made in the 60's, 80's, and 90's, I can see why it never happened. Maybe if they did another.

Yes, they wouldn't even have needed to devote much explicit attention to it. Just something that mostly is happening in the background as perfectly normal. If a main cast member were gay, treat his episodes no different than those of any other cast member, etc, just show him to be in same-sex relationships without overstating it, etc.
Agreed. I have been saying this for years. Last night, I was watching Worst Cooks in America on Food Network. Once again, the only gay contestants were such a stereotypical caricature that my godson and I were taken out of the moment by it. Any new Trek should portray gay folks as normal as we really are (with a few very loud exceptions).

Here's another thing I would love to see in the future of Trek since it becomes relevant to our current era, to have demanded this of past Trek series and movies would have been rather unfair, everyone loves it when sci-fi predicts the future but writers aren't....prophets. I want to see more use of information technology the internet is such a enormous part of our lives I want to see that applied to trek. Like for instance have the officers download data into their pads instead of having a pile of them. Also if you're in a holo arcade in New York can you connect with your friends in Beijing? Like would you see them as a hologram but you know there's a real human you're interacting with.

Better fitting uniforms

Enterprise was the only series that gave the impression that Starfleet could afford a good tailor.

My stock answer to this question for years was "A busy city on Earth", but having gotten that in the last movie (and I loved it!), my answer is now...

I'd love to hop over to a parallel Earth and see those unmade Trek movies - The Academy Years (imagine the '09 backlash in '93!) and The Beginning (imagine the antipathy ENT got, directed at a movie about Kirk's granddad!)

...
- Something that dealt with World War III. This would probably be better suited to the novels, but you take what you can get. I don't mean offhand comments by characters in ST:FC about "factions" and all that crap, I mean a full-out SHOWING of the war, who started it, who these "factions" were, how it ended, and more importantly, how exactly the hell Earth managed to recover from a nuclear war in only a HUNDRED YEARS... :scream:
...

Some great ideas in this thread, but I have always expected to see something referring to the finer details of earth's greatest war in a time-travel episode or hear them talk about Vulcan's cleaning efforts or something. We got hints and FC's side step 'well, we know what happened so why go into further detail' response but the who, where, and how were barely answered about that war.

Here's something else I'm curious about seeing... remember that one DS9 episode (Past Tense) where Kira and O'Brien go on a trip through time, and they end up in the 2048 of an alternate timeline...O'Brien later says of that part, "Earth's had its rough patches, but never THAT rough." I've always wondered what exactly he saw there, and what made it worse than WW III...

^I think he was alluding to the fact that in the timeline he witnessed, Sisko had failed to protect the hostages and caused the situation with the sanctuary districts to worsen.

^ But still, O'Brien is a reasonably educated man - he knows all about the horror of World War III. If he saw something that was "never THAT rough", then it must have been worse than that. What could possibly have been worse than a third world war? :wtf:

Federation timeships like the Relativity engaging in combat with other factions in the Temporal Cold War. Like the Na'kuhl. I've felt that it should have been the Temporal Integrity Commission fighting the Na'kuhl in ENT since they're from the same century.

^ Unfortunately, the TIC seems to have gotten short shrift in the various "time cop" novels that have come out lately. :(

Most of the attention in these novels has been to the 24th century (Department of Temporal Investigations, i.e. Dulmur and Lucsly) and the 31st (Daniels' home time period). The TIC hasn't gotten anywhere near as much of a shout-out.

Here's one I'm surprised nobody has mentioned:

I would've liked to have seen Carol Marcus return. Her absence in all Trek sequels left a kind of hole in the rest of the series. She wasn't necessary storywise, but she was clearly an important figure in Kirk's life and I thought Bibi Besch had a great chemistry with Shatner. It would've been nice to see them together in one of the sequels.

I'd liked to have seen a hot hunk on the main cast who wore skin-tight catsuits throughout a series

It would've been nice to revisit some of the alternate timelines created throughout Trek, such as the Yesterday's Enterprise one, or some of those that Worf visited in Parallels--I'd especially liked to have seen one where the Borg had assimilated Earth and gone on to conquer the quadrant.
