..or it could be that
HE is ready to settle in life, but the one to go will be Rosita (conveniently comfy relationship stuff we have not witnessed since they arrived at the ASZ in season 5), or Sasha.
...or something will happen to someone else trying to make a better life (Maggie or Glenn), so he will become fatalistic again, perhaps taking him right back to the suicidal point he was at when Eugene met him.
After a time, one has to weigh their options--yes, they need food, and need to protect themselves, but in nearly every conflict they've had, a major personal loss was the end result:
- Prison Andrew: his actions separated Lori from Hershel, and the stress probably triggered labor, and a guaranteed death by C-section.
- Governor 1: Andrea.
- Governor 2: Hershel.
- Terminus: Bob was bitten, only because their escape route took them to Gabriel's church, then the food pantry.
- Grady Memorial: Beth.
Is it worth losing what few of their core family remains?
