The Walking Dead Season 4

Knew Lizzie wasn't long for the world when she answered Carol with "I know what I have to do now." Figured she was just going to get herself bit though. Didn't expect her to do the twins storyline.

As for walkercide, its all a matter of risk assessment and asset usage. There are few, if any, ways you can make killing walkers 100% safe and reliable, particularly in the open. Also, it takes time, effort, and energy to kill walkers, no matter how they're killed. All of those things are in short supply in the zompocalypse, and should be conserved for necessary situations. Also, with everyone having the disease, they will never stop making zombies.

And on Dexter, I think he'd be a decent plan-maker, but he frequently flailed about when his plans went awry, so I think he'd be dead the first time things went to shit. Barring that, its unclear how the undead would affect his Dark Passenger. Would all the walker killing keep him calm? Would the kills feel empty? Would the sheer number of kills turbo-charge him and turn him into a truly dangerous psychotic? Would he even bother pretending to be normal once the society his code was defined against had collapsed?

The very first walkers should have rotted to the point that they can't walk by now.
Depends on the time frame. How long can a walker survive if it can still feed off the flesh of others? I think some episode made a reference to the walkers who had a decent meal looking better than those that didn't.

I think it's pretty much a given at this point that the Zombie virus also prevents a Walker from rotting away as fast as a regular corpse would. After two years, there would be very few of them left otherwise.

<<how do you think Dexter would do in this world? >>

That is actually a brilliant and original idea!!!

A serial killer living in a zombie apocalypse! He can kill all the folks he wants! He could become the noble leader of the survivors since he can kill freely and without consequence.

yeah, whenever I saw one and was able I'd kronk them on the head - you never know when you might see them again.
The longer the show goes on the more it bothers me that they aren't all just slaying every walker they can. That they don't have a policy of complete genocide. Or "walkercide". They will never get anywhere till the population of walkers starts declining.
The theme of this season is hopelessness. Total elimination is impossible without a rebuilt society of some kind, which currently no one has. I'm feeling like everyone who leaves a walker alive does so for an internal reason, fear, weakness, weariness, hopelessness, etc... It's reasonable to see it. They're people, not an army...

I agree, plus even after they kill all the zombies (which is unlikely), a simple death can start the whole thing over again. If a zombie posed no threat (in a hole or tied up), what's the point of killing him?

I don't think their digestive systems work plus we've seen some walkers without stomachs.

That has to be the case.

how do you think Dexter would do in this world?

I have been doing a re-watch of the West Wing lately, and I had a dream of the Bartlet administration trying to handle the opening days of a ZA. That's what I get for watching West Wing and Walking Dead back-to-back before bed.

^
President Bartlett would just launch into a speech/lecture and the zombies would turn away in frustration over not knowing trivial facts.

I guess I would be a heartless, non-feeling bastage because as I got on the tracks I would have told Carol, hold on and walk back and smashed it's head in, I would have done it because I wouldn't want another person (possibly at night) to be walking on the tracks toward Terminus, trip over the damn thing and get bit, or it to get lose and bite someone.

Not only that it would be a sort of marker that another live person came this way and killed it, kinda like bread crumbs.

I'd also kill every one I saw (in my path) as I would have to rest sometime, I wouldn't want them herding up and coming up on me as I slept or limiting my path of escape.
I also wouldn't want a single one taking out a kid or weaker person in my group or other group.

For me I think I would just become desensitized to it like killing a mosquito buzzing around me.

Agree. It has been eighteen months, the walkers are still active and killing living humans to create new walkers too.

Good question. It would depend on how strong he is in that regard. If he wasn't strong enough constitutionally, then I could see him devolving in that direction.

I don't think it really needs pointing out that killing every walker they come across is both impractical and counter-productive. They're essentially living as hunter-gatherers, so most of their energy is spent on finding enough food and water to survive for another day.

As we saw at the prison, even if you're in a fortified location and can kill most of the ones that turn up at the fence everyday...the next day there'll be just an many or more to take their place. It never ends.

Right^
except that you aren't actually killing anything; they are already dead. You are killing the carrier of a pathogen.
That doesn't really negate what he's saying. It's an effort, a risk, & an expenditure of resources to be a continual walker executioner

Setting traps for them might not be a bad idea, but that takes time, & let me just point out that survival, in and of itself, is a full time job, especially when you're short on partners

Besides, my personal point of view is mostly that they get weary of it. Walkers may not be people anymore, but they're human bodies, nasty ones. from time to time it might just be nice to not have to slaughter one, because you got better shit to do, even if that's just being less miserable for a minute

how do you think Dexter would do in this world?

That's a great question that's difficult to answer.

On the one hand, it could be said that Dexter from either Season 1 or even pre-Season 1 would fair well given that he'd closed himself off to the world, not allowing for any deep or personal relationships to form. He could efficiently kill without anyone to protect or answer to... aside from his foster sister, Debra, to whom he would never intentionally cause harm or otherwise be a threat.

On the other hand, a case could also be made for the Dexter we see after he has started to let people in, to feel something for them. Those with a conscience in the ZA hesitate, as we have seen. Those who still have people left to lose don't know how they'll react until they see those people start to die in front of them. Someone like Dexter with his killer instincts would likely go into overdrive. I would not want to be the zombie/human who kills someone that Dexter loves.

Ultimately, I think that the Dexter from the second half of the series is more likely to survive. He's more open, has sustained losses, and is a little more flexible about his personal code. That last part would come in handy against creeps like the Governor. In any case, Debra would be his rock, and would always have his back.

Really, I think the better question would be what kinds of people would the other characters on that show become, post ZA? We know that most of the main characters on "The Walking Dead" have been average people with average jobs and average lives, and look how much they've changed!

That's kind of what's great about this episode. It's very much a "I don't know" thing as it was a very, very difficult situation that, really, has no good, clear, right answer.

Just thinking about the episode right now, and I still find it difficult to look into a disturbed, crying child's face, knowing what was going to happen.

Perhaps that would be a weakness which would allow Lizzie to strike again (at any time in the future), but I would have tried something--anything to save her.

They were already saving her. What they couldn't do & quite possibly no one left on Earth could do, was... fix her. A person that can't be fixed is a real issue in the primal world. They are a drain, a distraction & in some cases a threat

Ahhh, remember the good old days when all we had to do to fix a person & get things back on an even keel was hack off their infected leg with a hatchet? I'd rather do that crap any day of the week & twice on Sunday, rather than escort around a wackjob kid. lol

If a zombie posed no threat (in a hole or tied up), what's the point of killing him?

How about stuck in the mud? Maybe we should ask Dale that one.

..or ask Meghan (Penny 2.0) about that walker buried head-deep in the mud...

I wouldn't call Dale's zombie a non-threat and as for Meghan, her mother should have been closer/more observant of her daughter. They do live in zombieland.

I have to say, this could be my favorite WD episode of all time. It really tore at me, I was crying with Carol at the end. The actress who played Lizzie was amazing, this was a believable break with reality, weather it be because of issues or not.
