The ugliest Star Trek costume?

These guys wore placemats. :)

They don't look very sturdy in construction. I imagine there might have been quite a number of costume malfunctions during the filming of this episode.

(is that supposed to be the lower-half of the Star Trek logo?).

Yep.

THEY ARE ALREADY WEARING THE LOGO! Why not just airbrush the thing on the uniform? Jeez. That's ugly!

Is that what that is? I always wondered where they came up with that funny point. And despite your opinion HaventGotALife, I still like it...even though I now think it's too repetitive - like the thousands of little arrowheads on the ST '09 uniforms, or the thousands of little S's on the Superman Returns uniform. But hey, I don't see people complaining about the arrowhead buckle on TWOK uniforms.

I like the way it breaks up the severe horizontal divide of TOS uniforms, and how it and the black under the arms add contour to the body. If anything, I think TNG uniforms needed more curves.

Spock's civilian disguise in Assignment:Earth (Yes, I mean that one with the Virginity protection hats.)

But particularly bad were the outfits in TVH. Especially Spock's robe. It seemed to me he was pulled out of bed and went right on the mission without changing the clothes (I haven't seen the beginning). Even the boots looked like socks with soles. I understand the robe must be a comfortable piece of clothing- you can hang out all the day long without getting sunburn and being overheated, but it looked like a Vulcan equivalent of sweatpants. Reminded me of Arthur Dent on his way through space, wearing bathrobe all the time. But Spock is not Arthur Dent. I felt quite like having a 'No pants dream' when I looked at him.

I wished they make something that reminds me of maybe if I was down in Louisiana, New Orland, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Thailand or somewhere in L.A. where I actually get a feel for a sense of culture, history...you know the stuff that makes you feel like you belong somewhere and part of something grander. I'm from Thailand and Thai cultures are very sophisticated, even ways to carry normal everyday tasks has elaborate art form to it. I remember when I was little helping my grandmother sewing all the beautiful flowers together with strings in to elaborate designs so we can take it to the monks at the monastery and making all these difficult, time consuming deserts that you need to pay attention to a lot of details for it to come out right so that we can hand out food to the monks that walk from the monestaries to everyone's house bared foot early in the morning for the meal of the day. Monks don't work so people give them food like the way Christians would pray in churches. It makes you feel good. You know maybe that's why the largest population of Thai people outside of Thailand is in L.A. I love to move to New Orland, too, if I can.

When I look at ST, even the new ST movie that came out, you don't get the feeling and the sense of cultures, though. It kindda remind me of roach infested, crowded cities where people seem like they are talking out of their arses. [chuckle] Not the places you want to start a family, you know?

I always felt bad for poor little Jake Sisko..having to wear those jumpsuits and ... yeah... those things were pretty tight in the crotchal region. I feel like a pedophile just watching early DS9s. I'm so glad once he got to a certain age, they gave him 2 piece outfits. Poor kid.

Guard: "That does it! I can't stand these plastic placemats--they don't breathe at all. I'm dying in this get-up!"
Director: "Cut!"

Oh, yeah, those were horrible.

Granted, when the show was out I didn't have the problem you did because I was actually too young to notice details like that. Watching it again at an older age...yeah, awkward!

To be honest, that belt buckles are a godawful feature, but they are not what caught my eye on this photo.

I never really cared for the uniforms from the TOS movies. (The red ones) They seemed to complicated and they just kind of annoyed me whenever I saw them.

TOS - The technicians' pajama jumpsuit, that never made sense to me, no pockets and loose fabric to get snagged in machinery...not very functional...unless you Hugh Hefner.

TNG - For me its the TNG Uniforms from the first two seasons of the show. As well as most of Trio's outfits

DS9 - The hunters chasing Tosk, with the neon visors and red skin tight jumpsuits

VOY - Neelix's costume

ENT - I never dug the black tie with the Admiral's uniform

I suspect the "floating belt buckle" is in fact a "personal personal shielding device." With that awful jumpsuit, a man would need one.

They would be overly complicated (unless they were dress uniforms, not for shipboard duty), but for pure aesthetic appeal, I think they're the best uniforms in Trekdom.

At least Spock got a two-piece uniform for the TMP movie and not this

ahhhhh yes...........the inexplicable floating belt-buckle....

It's like they reviewed "By Any Other Name" (TOS) and thought hey, the Kelvans had a great idea. A belly button mounted device! :wtf:

What's even more disturbing than the fact that these jumpsuits are crotch revealing, is the noticeable dark spot on Spock's uniform... like he just finished coming back from the men's room before this shot was taken.
