Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

Wasn't there someone building a forty foot long model of the TOS Enterprise? Working out what fits and what doesn't.

When I made my reimagined Connie, I spent some time trying to work out the correct size of the ship based on the ceiling height of the hallways in TOS and the number of decks on the blueprints. My Connie ended up being almost exactly the same size as the Discoprise, despite being as conservative as possible, despite wanting it to be as close to the official size of the TOS Connie as possible. The TOS Connie simply isn't 289 meters long.

Last week, I loaded up a model of the TMP Enterprise on a whim and scaled it so the bottom edge to bottom edge distance of the saucer windows was ~3 meters, which is about the scale of the Rec Deck set. It ended up being about 450 meters long. I support scaling the ships up, but I always through 350~ was a decent size for the TMP version and the Discoprise was just a bit too big, so I was surprised by that suspiciously close match.

Yep, they're talking about it over on the TOS board. And some people are pretty miffed that he's altering the scale and proportions to make things fit in a way he thinks makes sense. Heck, the debates even made it to the radio quiz Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me, where they talked about how fans were arguing with him that 1000 toilets is an unreasonable amount for a crew of 430.

Not sure if it's the same, but there's a guy building one out of cardboard deck by deck and posting his vid's on YT that's going to be big enough to fill a small warehouse.

Neat. Very interesting to keep running across more indications that a 442m Constitution can make sense in the context of what we've seen before, sometimes more so than the prior estimates. The bridge, deck heights, shuttle bay, rec deck, things seems to work out pretty well with a ~450 ship. Nothing will ever be 100% congruent with every detail, but it sure massages a lot of known aches and pains.

I really like the out there designs in the third and, especially, fourth images, I hope they're reused in the future.

Yeah, that third one seems like a modern update on the Kellogg Avanti shuttlecraft.

Some interesting variants going unused there. Maybe those designs can be recycled into stories elsewhere?

Glad they went with the design they did as it definitely looks TOS inspired.

Some of the others seem more TNG than TOS style.

I wonder if the shuttlebay is his own creation, or the one that was modelled inside the DSC version of the Enterprise model.

Edit: No I don't think it's the DSC version

Those alternate shuttle designs remind of the many shuttle designs created for TAS. Like you'd go into the shuttlebay and see these alternate designs sitting there not being used.
