Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

Shrink the airlocks and windows, thats all. Part of the issue with making the airlocks larger is you'd need to scale the travel pods also.

If you keep the pods the same size and just shrink the ports, it solves the issue
Yeah that was one of the issues with a Picard Season 3 ship

Someone on the art team did research, those are some real Trek terms, canon and non-canon.

There's a bucnh of other great set blueprints in there as well.
This is pretty amazing. Basically all the stuff I'm curious about in one booklet! Engineering especially, facing forwards not back and getting to see the warp core layout is interesting. That AR pipe cathedral area looks huge though, I thought it'd take up the whole engineering hull. Let the next round of Starship Size Wars begin!

Doesn't this kinda end the war? I mean, they show exactly how everything fits. And it all works and makes sense. This Enterprise seems to be the most well thought out Starship we've had since the NX-01, in terms of sizing and layout.
Absolutely Right.™
Probably not good enough to satisfy that "Day of The Dove" energy creature that seems to lurk when such controversies arise, but otherwise fine.

What I can't wait to see is the Shuttlebay. I think we're still supposed to see it at some point this season. With it, we'll have a pretty complete view as to how the whole Secondary hull is filled out.

Agreed.

They don't so much define exactly how everything lays out as they suggest architecturally how it might. This is what Jefferies did, with the structural beams and canted wall in the briefing room, or the curved corridors. Those corridors are meant to be anywhere on the ship, despite whatever their real radii are.

Clever people can use this material as a jumping off place to create cool stuff, like Franz Joseph did. Others will use it to complain that "they got it wrong."

I don't think a good deckplan is enough cover this much of a size increase. At 1.5x it's wider than an excelsior and applying 1.5x to successive ships means galaxy and soverign are pushing 1km in length. Had scale been kept to within 1.25x though the only ship that really would have needed to change was the connie(and maybe disco), it would still have the scale to make 10ft cielings fit, be a noticable progression over the nx-01 while still noticeably screen smaller than successive generations of ship and we woudn't have this domino effect bumping everything else up to make sense.

You only have to rescale the Constitution (and by extension the Miranda) and Excelsior. Making the Excelsior around the same length as an Ambassador. But the Ambassador still has considerably more internal volume, so its still the bigger ship.

Unfortunately the commonly cited excelsior dimensions I used are 511meters by 195 meters, the ambassador class meanwhile is 524meters long and ~300ish meters wide. There isn't enough wiggle room to stretch the excelsior in a meaningful way, meanwhile the connie matches that excelsiors's width around the ~440meter mark and idealy we want her to come well under that as it's relevant to a scene in TSFS where she's using the fact that she is narrower to get a head start on the excelsior when escapeing stardock through the partially opened doors.

The only ships that would need to be increased in size would be the other ships that use Constitution components and the Excelsior, which is already scaled far too small.

Ok I went back and double checked, tried excelsior with ambassador's full length etc, and I have to acknowledge that though the new figures for the connie pushes right up to the limit (that limit being the width of an excelsior upscaled to the length of an ambassador) its technically not breaking the limit, and there's no domino'ing going on. Only real casualty is the sense of size difference the movies were going for in accouple shots but the movies were notorious for playing fast and loose with ship scale anyway. SNW connie is more well designed and thought out than I originally gave it credit for when I first saw it and I can finally fully accept it as a replacement.

I'm sticking with these being leftover Hur'q ships/designs :nyah:
I'll take one step further into denial and say they are ship scale holo-projections a'la the romulan false flag drone, but used by the klingons to instead intimidate the enemy and prevent the visual identification and targeting of critical systems.

Having gotten home from work and had a proper look, did you not see the red writing and SCALE CHEAT REQUIRED TO FIT? On the cutaways, the top one is how it "should" fit and the bottom one shows it at actual size, which is way too big.

The SNW Enterprise may be 725m like the Kelvin one!

Ah nice catch, thought that was just a close up. I guess I can just go back to insisting Connie is 300ish long meters until the heat death of the universe then.

They did make a CG shuttlebay for Discovery season two, but never used it cos it was basically the TOS one and they had to fit 100 fighters inside:lol:
I imagine it being much like the cargo deck, which was much like the Kelvinverse shuttle bay. But more likely it'll be like TOS and they'll never ever question how those fighters got in there:p
