Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

I will have to live with the scaling up, but a refit could be done to match the TOS version.
The most extreme case would be the SNWprise get pounded so bay it cannot be economically repaired. The crew then gets reassigned to the TOS version.

If they really want to make it match TOS at the end of the series, they'll change the design but keep it at roughly the same length as the SNW one.

That was probably the intent. But...

at this point if you are still expecting the Discoprise to turn into the TOS Enterprise by the end of the series I think you are gonna be really disappointed.

This. Although they did allude in one episode to this when they mentioned that the ship's deck plates have constantly been replaced, but changing them enough to turn the ship into the TOS version? No.

I mean, Starfleet somehow refitted it to make it larger (from The Cage in 2254 to Will You Take My Hand? in 2257. I’d imagine Starfleet knows how to refit it to return it to its original size by 2265 for WNMHGB.

No, they didn't refit it to make it larger. The Cage version and the DSC/SNW version are supposed to be the same ship. CBS is asking you to suspend disbelief that the ship ever looked like the TOS version, at least for those two shows.

The TOS length was also never canon. Unless you want to count that display seen in DSC 2x01 that copied the measurements right from the TOS tech manual. Those measurements wouldn't work anyways because the DSC Retcon design is a different shape.

The SNW bridge set has two plaques, the second one has the new dimensions

And considering that no other plaque has ever had the ship's dimensions, this is just more evidence that CBS wants these numbers to supersede whatever was accepted in the past for the size of the NCC-1701.

Yes, indeed. They are trying to completely erase TOS from the public consciousness. I have started a Gofundme to fight this conspiracy ;)

Ok, jokes aside, I doubt it is anything wanting to supersede the past. It's just a new interpretation of a fictional environment. Like Shakespeare.

That's not what I said. I said the two ships are the same, and you have to ignore the scale differences, because the TOS version has been phased out. It has nothing to do with a refit.
Yeah they're the same, in the same manner that the TMP Enterprise refit was stated to be the exact same ship/hull that appeared on the screen in the Star Trek TV series 1966-69.

There's also the fact that the first time we see Pike in command of the Enterprise 1701 in The Cage/ The Menagerie, he states the crew compliment is 203.

13 years later when Kirk is in command of the Enterprise, it's crew compliment is stated as 430.

So yeah we have Canon evidence that the original 1701 has gone through a number of refits since it was first launched; and they definitely appear to have affected its internal and external structure in major ways.

So no I don't get all the consternation about the hull of the ship getting larger or smaller depending on the design of a particular refit.

IIRC it was the same ship and size, the increased crew was due to internal refits. Newer technology was less bulky and more efficient, the volume taken up by the old hardware was converted into more habitable space for crew.

Discovery Season 2 gives the same crew compliment.
Really? In what episode did they state the crew compliment? The only time I ever saw a fruit complement on Discovery was a quick shot of a display screen displaying info of the USS Enterprise, and it listed the crew compliment as 203 on the screen.

Burnham gives the crew number in dialogue in episode 1.

Does the length of the Enterprise and design changing matter any more than say, Spock or Pike being recast with a different actor with a different height? Because it's much of a muchness. And I see SNW as a quasi-reboot anyway.
