Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

A year from now nobody's going to remember or care about the explanation of why it shouldn't have been there. There are still folks talking about shoehorning the fake-Klingon ship into the canon as an actual Crossfield sub-class. This will be no different. It was on-screen - it's in the canon now. Why the guy said it never should have been there is kind of weird to me. I mean, who cares? It's an interesting design and it's always going to be there now. Why not just let it ride? Meh... It's canon to me now, and really not worth the effort to hand-wave it away like this. The thing might even end up in STO within the next year or so, and maybe even wind up being a Fanhome model! The whole debate of this thing is kind of silly to me.

Which was confirmed to be a mistake.

The FauxCrossfield was a purely Klingon created kitbash creation.

The individual parts come from existing ships, but not that combination of them.
What? The Fed engineers saw the design, said: "Hey this has merit..."; built a couple (look at how hast they built the Crossfield Class itself), and volia...nerw 23rd century Federation starship class. ;)

Didn't the USS Voyager encounter the fake NX-01 USS Dauntless in the 24th century; StarFleet eventually made a real "Dauntless Class" down the line that was a bit different?
To be fair here basic Slipstream drive required some very specific hull geometry to avoid hull fractures so that might just be a case of convergent technological development.

Yes, good point. Apparently, the Klingons had a good idea and Starfleet had spare Crossfield saucers, plus a new incentive to build more ships.

It could be the Yeager of the 23rd Century.

The Freighter and the Nebula are fantastic.
I like both, though the reuse of the "Nebula Class" name feels a bit pat. I wasn't a fan of it with the Constitution III/Neo-Constitution and it feels like class name reuse is becoming a "theme".

I will say I'm surprised that no one has called out (that I've noticed) that the "Nebula" class has a VERY Constitution Refit looking saucer.

Jörg Hillebrand has been posting the revised DSC ships with their new nacelles on his socials. Interestingly, it looks like most, if not all, don't have the clear domes at the front of their nacelles, just the lights within. It's possible this is a rendering error, or it could be an intentional variation, I guess we'll have to wait to see if we get a closer look at any of them later on.

My headcanon is that details of the Dauntless project were in the datastream (to demonstrate what was being worked on to try to bring Voyager's crew home), and Arturis had sufficient resources to emulate (more or less) the look of it.

I like that idea. Something in the exterior design was required to allow an efficient implementation of the slipstream tech and Arturis copied it, but with variations necessitated by his own limited resources. Very cool idea!
