Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

What do you see in it?
It doesn't appear gleaming, white and pearlescent to me. In STO, players see TMP-era ships alongside regular ships all the time. The TMP-era ones stand out like beacons. I don't see it here with the Nebula class. I might be oblivious, though.
Saucer edge slope, window arrangement and general detailing. While it might not be a pearlescent white in colour the saucer does feature aztecing.

Concept art for the new science lab, is that cetacean ops above and below? Sure looks like it.
Yep, confirmed by Akiva.

I dunno... I think it's better than that personally.

From a tech level POV, I could see where it could be perceived that way, but I don't see Pike insufferably sniffing his disdain at "lesser" civilizations and pontificating how evolved and superior humans have become than their ancestors and other species on a near-weekly basis. I sometimes catch TNG reruns on local stations that run "retro" marathons and some of that dreck is positively wretch-inducing.

Overall, IMO, SNW is orders of magnitude better. My mind can tolerate more advanced tech in the early 23rd than appeared later. It conversely recoils viscerally at smug self-absorption.

Please take an extremely close look at the saucer. It has all the details of the Connie refit/miranda saucer.
Exact same window design, airlock/cargo doors on the saucer rim, the Aztec panelling, the RCS thrusters and red stripes

Though it also does have some small TOS touches, like the raised hull panel with the nav light on it, and those glowing rectangles at the four quarters of the saucer

Especially when our current tech appears more advanced than TNG era Trek Tech. This is certainly in terms of UX just because we have a superior understanding of UX compared to the 80s and 90s - and better computers to drive things like the fancy viewscreen UIs.

Some of the seemingly more-advanced tech is trying to stay a bit ahead of what our current tech can do. We don't have viewscreens, but our displays are more advanced than what it looked like even the TNG or Voyager viewscreens could apparently do.

I still don’t agree the tech in SNW looks more advanced than TNG.

More advanced than the movie era? Yeah I guess maybe.

The Enterprise still has a ton of physical buttons along with the touch screens, similar to some of the movies.

Wake me up when they remove all the physical switches and just have touch panels everywhere like in the TNG era shows and then we can debate it

I'm sure TOS's screens are way higher resolution than anything we use today, with incredible colour and refresh rate, we just can't see it on our primitive televisions.

They really want this show to be TNG Jr., don’t they?
In TNG it was a background gag label, which the Technical Manual ran with and decades later Lower Decks (followed by Prodigy) made "real"

Retconning it back onto pre-TOS is weird at first, but it matches the weird quirky tone the series is going for. And now we've got a thousand threads of "what was going on in Cetacean Ops during TOS" to look forward to:lol:

Maybe I'm tech blind but I don't see the "more advanced" from TNG in SNW.
