Ya know, it might actually be possible for Scotty to sneak around the back and slip inside that one.

A lot of new visual details in a display model of the Enterprise at Star Trek Chicago. Presumably this is a studio model, though obviously not used for filming (The Orville has a similar model for production reference). The colors are more similar to the TOS and TNG models than is evident as the CG version is environmentally lit for rendering. There are ECS thrusters just barely visible on the hull, which is something I thought I'd noticed in one or two screengrabs:

I have revised my recreation of the Strange New Worlds Enterprise emblem based on photos of the patch on Hemmer's excursion jacket from Mission Chicago. All points now align near perfectly. The "United Federation of Planets" text at the bottom of the emblem has been corrected from Eurostile Bold to Eurostile Bold Extended per the patch.

There's ways around it of course; the El-Aurians knew all about the Borg in the 23rd century and may well have talked about them, sparking academic interest.

But I've always been very comfortable with the idea that the timeline changes subtly due to the numerous incidents of time travel we see on the show. The First Contact one is quite a big inflection point - I think the novelverse used that concept.

It's established within canon that this can and does happen - Gabriel Bell, Sela etc. ENT and DSC introduce future Temporal Wars where the past becomes a battlefield.

Whatever, it all works for me. It's one continuity but might look a bit different depending when we're looking at it. I just assume that the overall story is the same even if some of the details are different.

There's going to be some verison of SNW where the ship looks like it does in The Cage and Pike looks like Jeff Hunter, and both Una and Chapel look like Majel Barrett. We're just seeing it through a different lens this time.

This is how I see it as well, except I’d go further and say there’s multiple doppelgängers of the “prime timeline” in the Star Trek multiverse that have branched off from each other throughout the franchise due to time travel incursions or just string theory.

The prime timeline “we watch” now is just the current iteration.
History plays out pretty much the same, except select details are different, particularly in the ENT-TOS era.

For example, I don’t think ST: Enterprise was part of “our” prime timeline before the events of First Contact added that to the newest iteration of the prime timeline, which became “ours”.

Basically, that’s how I personally explain away the design retcons in the new Trek stuff.
It’s still the prime timeline, just one of infinite variations of it.
60s TOS and a lot of the other films/ shows don’t happen in the new prime timeline exactly as we saw them decades ago, but more “modern” looking versions do and stuff like the 60s TOS show are still valid depictions of those parts of history.

You can also say the temporal people consolidated the prime timelines into one singular timeline at some point just to keep it “simple”

The more stuff we see from SNW, the more it puts to bed the (IMO ridiculous) claim that some had that you couldn't do the TOS aesthetic in a modern show, that it would look stupid. Sure, nothing here looks exactly as it did in TOS, but the feel of it is so much closer than where we were in...other shows set in this time period. ;)

It's an updated look not a straight 1 to 1. It definitely doesn't look like TOS as much as it looks like an updated 2020's style. The stations look like they do something.
