The Stargate Franchise - A First Timer's Watchthrough

My main issue with Anise was that in "Upgrades" she screws SG-1 over, and how anyone was supposed to entirely trust her after that, much less want to have sexytimes with her, was beyond me.

Uneasy ally with some potential for redemption I maybe could have bought, but she didn't appear enough times for that to work.

I'm not familiar enough with the actor's work to say how much of the blame may lie with her performance versus other factors.

Jack never really trusted her. As for sexytimes I mean it was Vanessa Angel. She was sexy. Because the show never over played it Stargate when you look at it had a super sexy cast. Judge and Shanks were total hunks. Carter,Fraser and Anderson had more relatable beauty. I always liked how despite this the show didn't play it up which made the military environment feel more realistic and professional.

Generally, I agree. But in later seasons, they did put Carter out of uniform more, wearing the tank top. It definitely felt like an attempt to emphasize Carter's sex appeal more.

The Powers That Be (SG-1)

So right now the Ori are unbeatable. They can inflict a plague on people and cure them and they can stop bullets. Also, the debate between the Prior and Daniel was very convincing on the Prior's part. Still, it was an interesting debate, do you want to cheat your way to knowledge or work for it. The Ori have these massive powers and are great at fearmongering and who can blame anyone for wanting to go with it. The only argument Daniel has is the idea of free will, but with the Ori showing what powers they have Freedom can only get you so far. I hope we do see a weakness because a villain who is unbeatable could turn boring pretty quickly. I'm still loving the issues these episodes are raising though, free will vs full knowledge, what makes a true god, stuff like that.

Again Vala was great. She got so much more development as a character and I'm loving what Black is doing for the role. I no longer see Aeryn here. Vala is a unique character and while she has been used for comic relief for the most part, I appreciated this episode started to get serious with her, from wearing her down trying to cure the illness to trying to kill the Prior.

I have to say I'm not liking the direction of the Landry/Lam storyline. For one, Landry seems to complain about personal baggage a lot, but I see it as a big conflict of interest that the doctor is the daughter of the guy in charge of the entire base. I think it might have worked had they been in a relationship and something happened years ago but familial relationship is a little more long lasting. I do like Lam more than I like the doctor they replaced Frasier with, but with less than 2 seasons to go, there will never be another Dr. Janet Frasier. I just hope Landry can start acting like the General of Cheyanne Mountain.

If you think the Ori are unbeatable now, you ain't seen nothing yet. But I can't say much now because of spoilers.

Totally agree. The "family issues" between Landry and Lam did not work for me either, especially Landy acting kinda wussy about not being a good father.

When you complained about the boring, useless filler doctor after Janet's death I don't know if I put it in spoiler but I wanted to scream 'JUST WAIT UNTIL SEASON 9!'

Only reason that woman, not even an actor she is so bad, is it's because it's Michael Shanks' wife.

Stargate really handled the two shows on at the same time. There are no really huge things, if you watch one show and not the other they work fine. Like I said two old roommates have only seen Atlantis and never SG1.

Beachhead (SG-1)

Yeah I think the first 6 episodes did serve as a bit of an arc, like the Occupation arc in DS9. That episode was awesome, and Vala was awesome. The effect of the Supergate was pretty cool and Vala risked her life (And Daniels) to disrupt it preventing a black hole from forming. And we got Carter back, meaning the whole team, minus Jack, is back together. I'm going to miss Vala but at least they opened the door for her to return. Hopefully if she is in the Ori part of the Galaxy she's gathering information on a way to beat them. The team finally got a victory but they are still kinda screwed. Also, why trust a Goa'uld? Landry was kinda dumb in this episode but at least he can torture the guy with lack of food now.

With that said, I miss Atlantis so tonight I'm going to match up where I am at SG-1 with Atlantis, which is the next 3 episodes. After that I am going to view episodes in 3s, still leaving multi-part episodes together. I'm loving the SG-1 arc, but I don't want to forget what is happening at the Pegasus Galaxy. It will allow binge watching to be enjoyable while still remembering what is happening on each show.

This entire post is nonsense.

Lexa Doig is a prolific actor with numerous credits to her name, including starring roles in Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, Continuum, and The Arrangement and a 3-season recurring role on Arrow.

It's interesting how many guest actors Arrow has had. I looked up Ben Browder's IMDB page the other day and he was in Arrow. I've seen Arrow but it's so long since I have seen the early seasons that I didn't remember him in it. I actually like Lexa Doig as an actress in the role of Lam, especially trying to save Daniel and Vala's life. I just don't like the storyline of the daughters boss being head of the entire operation. It is a conflict of interest.

Arrow, like SG-1 films in Vancouver. Shows filmed in Vancouver share a lot of actors, as you've no doubt noticed by now many actors appearing on the Stargate shows who were also in BSG or The X-Files.

Vancouver is a hot spot for sci fi shows. I noticed the same thing with The Expanse and Orphan Black. It makes sense. Less travel across the border and stuff like that.

I can't remember the name of the Goa'uld in "Beachhead", but I did love his performance, and it was nice to see one who wasn't all about "kneel before me!!!"

It was Narus. I too liked his performance. You think he's this kind of a clown guy always wanting to eat and then you get his Goa'uld voice and it's like a shock to the system.

Duet (SG: A)

A Dart Attack beams McKay and Cadman onto the ship and when they are beamed out, they are merged together. We've seen this story before, the aforementioned Out of Their Minds in Farscape, Tuvix in Star Trek Voyager, and many others. What made this one great was just how funny it was, and Hewlett did an amazing job playing McKay and Cadman. There were so many hilariously awkward scenes, like the dinner scene, McKay kissing Carson, and when Cadman takes control of McKay while he was sleeping. Hewlett really does have some of the best scenes in this series and it's just constant hilarity. I hope we see Cadman again. She was so much fun.

The B-Plot was basically making Ronan official on the show. I loved his talk with Teyla about why she joined the team and Atlantis being the best hope for survival, and I loved his training fighting scenes. I wish his fighting scene with Teyla would have been longer though. He sure is a man of few words. While I didn't watch all of Game of Thrones I did see the first two seasons and Drogo was also a man of few words. Yeah Momoa is basically the muscle of the cast, but can he actually act? He does seem to play the same character a lot though, and I'm including Aquaman in that even though it's a gap of 14 years.

We also got a new title sequence, adding Momoa and the guy who plays Carson to the main cast, which looks more awesome than the first. I haven't fast forward through any of the title sequences on Atlantis so far. It's still really pretty to look at.

Rewatching reruns. I had a thought about a reboot update.

stargate universe had the KINO

If we got a reboot I had an idea where the SGC uses a quad drone.

I know SG-1 used aerial drones but smaller drones seems like a natural evolution

Condemned (SG: A)

The team discovers an island of prisoners being used as fodder for the Wraith. Decent episode. Ronan fits in with the team very well and there were a few great movies like Sheppard trying to break the stick over his knee and failing and McKay with a Mcguyver reference. I think my favorite scene was Weir telling off the Magistrate (The same guy who played the priest in Demons apparently). I almost feel like going back to read the spoilers on Weir when I watched Lost City because I think I know what it said. It might have been something about Weir being too held back as the leader of Atlantis. They really don't give her much to do, so when she does get to go off world or tell of Colonel Everett in The Siege, it's actually a highlight. I hope Lorne destroyed that Jumper though before he went through the Gate. That seems like a valuable piece of technology that can be useful.

The Jumpers aren't supposed to be operable by anyone without the magical Ancient gene, though that does get fudged with as the show progresses. Ford's escape from the city is one example. They could always go back for it if needed.

I would think the Wraith might have found a way to acquire something like that after the great war though. Maybe not, but is that planet going to be basically an uninhabitable wasteland going forward?

Trinity (SG: A)

I'm trying to like McKay, and there are episodes where I do like him (Like Duet) but the guy is a self-absorbed ego-maniac. This episode was constant obsession and it was starting to get grating. My favorite scene was Weir chewing him out for destroying (5/6th) of the solar system. I was really hoping Duet might actually start calming in him (Walking in a woman shoes and stuff like that) but this episode was bordering on unbarable. There were still parts I did like. Teyla hasn't been getting a lot of screen time so I liked her story, and Ronon got much more development finding more survivors from Seteda (His homeworld). The thing at the end when he killed the guy for his cowardace was shocking and now he and Teyla are holding a secret. I'm sure that will play a part later on. I also liked learning about Ancient technology and the power source was something else. That space scene at the end when they're trying to escape it heading towards the Gate was a really good scene.
