The Over 40s Club meeting

Oh hell, if you want to play that, how about Bill Cosby's early stuff from the late 60's into the 70's? I loved listening to those (on cassette).

Noah! I want you to build an Ark.

Right......Whats an Ark?

Get some wood build it 300 cubits by 80 cubits by 40 cubits.

Right......Whats a cubit?
I remember St George and the Dragon by Stan Freiberg.(spelling may be wrong)

"It was six o'clock in the evening. I got a call come in. "We got a dragon devouring maidens." I headed to the king's castle. *Dum, dee dum dum*

"Just the facts, ma'am."

"It was horrible! He breathed fire on me and even..."
Stan Freberg, and "St. George and the Dragonet"

Dragon: What's the charge?
St. George: Devouring maidens out of season
Dragon: Out of season? You'll never pin that rap on me, do you hear me, cop?
St. George: Yeah, I hear you. I got you on a 412, too.
Dragon: A 412?! WHAT'S A 412?!
St. George: Overacting. Let's go.

Imagine St. George sounding like Jack Webb's Joe Friday and you're there.

Anyone else remember Morris, the 9 Lives spokescat?
I loved those commercials. Great voice work. :rommie:

I had a little Shelty dog that Morris fell in love with; to the extent that when I was forced to give up the dog, Morris abandoned me. The people I gave the dog to, ended up with a cat who refused to leave. Good thing they lived on a farm! I'll never figure out how Morris found them;it took him 2 weeks, though.
That's a great story, although I'm sorry you lost your Cat. It's amazing how animals can do things like that, though.

I loved that cat! So much that, when I saw a big orange cat at the Humane Society, I got him and named him Morris. He was just as laid-back, though you certainly couldn't have called him finicky...

Wow! That is really sweet! well sweet for the dog - not so much for you!

My kitty is a snuggle-whore. If you pet her she'll follow you all over the house. doens't matter who as long as there is petting involved!

I spent most of my childhood out of the house:

Climbing trees
Jumping small streams
Jumping of the garage roof onto mattresses
Walking on firepits in bare feet
Playing cricket
Hanging out with the boys, who I would try to beat at everything ( a definate strong female even at that age).

Favourite programmes back then: Joe 90, Dr Who, Grange Hill, Thunderbirds.

OMG! The Thunderbirds!!!!! We catch them sometimes on some cable channel. Sooo incredibly goofy and fun.

And what was that religious show with, i think, stop action puppetry? There was a little boy and his dog......

Davey and Goliath!

I used to LOVE Davey and Goliath. To this day when I say hi to a good friend of mine, I inevitably adopt that goofy drawl of the dog, and say, "Hey Davey."

And yes, I loved The Thunderbirds ... and Captain Scarlet.

And the original Speed Racer!!!

Anyone else remember Morris, the 9 Lives spokescat?

My aunt bought my brother and I each a Morris t-shirt years ago. She goofed and my bro's was too big-so I had 2. Being poor, they got a lot of use. I used to hang out at 7-11 and play video games a lot with others in the general neighborhood. Being typical teen guys, we never actually introduced ourselves. After a while they began calling me "Morris" because of the shirts. The name stuck and at one point in the eighties there were more people that knew me as Morris than my real name. Considering some of the things I was doing in the eighties, that was probably the safer way to go. To this day, when I call my buddy's parents home I have to say it's Morris on the phone or they don't click as to whom is calling.

I used to catch the end of Davey & Goliath on Sunday mornings because it was on just before Hercules. Creeped me the hell out. :wtf:

Hercules, though was cool:

"Iron in his thighs." :rommie:

Okay, now it's my turn to need some help with a memory here.

There was a cartoon (possibly religious, too?) with a guy riding a red scooter or motorcycle and he had a dog. He wore these metal wrist bands and when he banged them together he'd turn into some kind of super powered hero guy and his dog turned into a lion.

Sound familiar to anyone? My Google mojo didn't work for this one.

I don't remember watching it, but the thing with the wristbands sounded vaguely familiar and your description led me to a show called either Samson & Goliath or sometimes Young Samson & Goliath.

THAT'S IT!!!

Thank you! Now I know why I think of this cartoon everytime a conversation about Davey and Goliath comes up (which happens with surprising frequency.)

"...and as we travel to that mythical town of Sludge Falls for another dramatic episode of...

The Edge of Wetness."

I remember that.

Which, for whatever reason, puts me in mind of all the great skits from the Carol Burnett show. It was a treat, to get to stay up with mom and dad and watch it. In addition to all the more famous recurring skits and the movie parodies (which I loved), I always enjoyed the TV commercial parodies they did.

These are classics!
