The Over 40s Club meeting

Bonz, I lived at the edge of one of those canyons in San Diego (probably a bit north and west of where you were) but I don't really have any memory of it due to being less than one year old for most of that time. There's a freeway built in the bottom of the ravine now.

If memory serves, the valley below was called Mission Valley and there was a freeway (and perhaps a shopping center on the opposite side of it.) We and Luv's restaurant (home of the free lollipops) were on one side of the highway. Obviously, I wasn't crossing the freeway.

I lived about a mile or so from the San Diego zoo (other direction from the canyon.) It was a long walk or bike ride; I don't recollect doing that more than once or twice. I was at a picnic just outside of it when a 4.5 quake hit once. Rock-n-roll!

That is such a fun area, I lived in Hillcrest right next to the zoo for awhile. I love how the junior high playground backs right up to wall that has animals right behind it.

Oh hell, if you want to play that, how about Bill Cosby's early stuff from the late 60's into the 70's? I loved listening to those (on cassette).

Noah! I want you to build an Ark.

Right......Whats an Ark?

Get some wood build it 300 cubits by 80 cubits by 40 cubits.

Right......Whats a cubit?
I remember St George and the Dragon by Stan Freiberg.(spelling may be wrong)

"It was six o'clock in the evening. I got a call come in. "We got a dragon devouring maidens." I headed to the king's castle. *Dum, dee dum dum*

"Just the facts, ma'am."

"It was horrible! He breathed fire on me and even..."

"Now back to our feature film! Woody Harrelson, Woody Allen, Woody Woodpecker, Woody Herman, Herman Munster, and Dumpo the Wonder Pigeon, in Heidi Suffers An Estrogen Avalanche!"

I miss the Muppet Show too. I find myself humming it odd times. My very young co-workers have no idea what it is.

My dad and I LOVED that show. Mom liked the muppets because I watched Sesame Street three times per day (thanks to PBS' early scheduling), so they always held my interest and were teaching me something. Anyway, my dad loves clever humor, tongue in cheek, etc, and the Muppet Show would have him roaring with laughter. A friend loaned me some of his DVD's a few years ago, when my son was around 8, and he watched them with his friend. Anyway, my son just loves singing jingles, so he was constantly humming or singing the theme. Even though the show is a bit dated, those two boys just loved it.

^ Since NOON today.

EXACTLY!!!

Me too. I actually own the Season 1 DVDs. We had my sis-in-law's family over this weekend and I put it on for my nephew. Unfortunately, not so much. :( He just didn't seem to like it. But, my SIL and I were having a ball. The Mark Hamill episode is classic. :bolian:

I didn't realize it at the time, but it really WAS a fun place to live. Some of my best childhood memories come from that neighborhood. I didn't know its name back then, but it was University Heights according to Google.

It was great when street view became available for that area. I've "walked" the entire area. Some things haven't changed a bit since 1969, but other things have. Like that restaurant. There was *nothing* down on the canyon side next to the freeway. Now it's all built up!

One of my favourite TV shows as a child was "Superman" with George Reeves as Superman.

I also loved Doctor Who and my first childhood crush was for the Doctor's companion, Jamie.

I always watched the George Reeves Superman. There was an episode where a robot had a piece of Kryptonite inside and it made Superman collapse. That sent me running from the room in tears. :rommie:

No, I don't watch that show. I did see him recently in a video interview on the First Season DVD set, though.

I think I remember one episode where Superman collapse in the bathroom (?) without his glasses on. I think that Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane found him and still did not recognise him as Superman. Even as a child I couldn't understand why people didn't realise that Superman and Clark Kent were the same person.

Anyone else remember Morris, the 9 Lives spokescat?

I loved that cat! So much that, when I saw a big orange cat at the Humane Society, I got him and named him Morris. He was just as laid-back, though you certainly couldn't have called him finicky...

I had a little Shelty dog that Morris fell in love with; to the extent that when I was forced to give up the dog, Morris abandoned me. The people I gave the dog to, ended up with a cat who refused to leave. Good thing they lived on a farm! I'll never figure out how Morris found them;it took him 2 weeks, though.
