THE ORVILLE Season Two...

The Mad Titan's brother Starfox, originally an 80s character, who has a similar powerset as Darulio, to lull sexual inhibition, was put on trial for rape in the pages of (Dan Slott's) She-Hulk a decade ago, for using his mind whammy powers to pick up Earth Girl's in singles bars.

It's been a while, but I think that he was found guilty?

That was a great series. I remember that story line. She-Hulk realized that his powers had made her initiate their encounter and when she realized that she had been under his "cupid" influence... the series actually did a great job of dealing with real world issues in an allegorical, super-hero setting. It would make a great television series. Court room setting, super-hero drama, with Denny Crane making guest appearances.

To the extent that TNG was good storytelling, it was in spite of Roddenberry's nonsense about "evolved humans" - not because of it.

The "evolved humans" thing really only came to the forefront during the TNG years. The sixties series message was all about how we humans continuously fight out savage nature in order to remain civilized. In this sense, I have always believed DS9 to be the spiritual successor to TOS rather than TNG.

There was a throw away line in the Dorulio episode before it got rapey just talking about the infidelity "it's bad manners to turn down sex in my culture."

It's also chemically impossible to turn down sex during mating season, so that's maybe the point. If you're taught from infancy to always say yes to sex, you won't notice that you can't say no, and half the population (both genders) won't constantly be on trial for rape always.

To me this sounds like an allegory for some cultures on earth in 2018. For example, there are some cultures in Africa where this is precisely the case. It is considered wrong for a woman to turn down a man's overtures.

McCoy could have been from the 1870s.

Edith Keeler did not fall in love with his futuristic Utopian optimism, like she did Kirk's a month later, because he is a grumpy cantankerous crotchety racist codger.

1. Girls may be producing these hormones too, and boys are vulnerable to boy hormones, so neither gender is safe from either gender, although Gordon wasn't surprised that his Captain was bi, so the hormones may make someosomeone go against their typical preferences or Ed was always bisexual.

2. Bunnyboilérs. There are violent consequences to telling a crazy person that they are not allowed to do what the want to do. If the choice is to submit to an unwanted frakk ( that you initiated with your rohipnol sweat) or getting stabbed 47 times... Like in that season 2 episode of Buffy where Xander cast a love spell on every woman in Sunnydale, and they all got homicidally pissy about the lack of reciprocation.

3. Gloves. Wear some flicking gloves during mating season like a responsible non-rapist Dorulio and don't love whammy anyone you jacked up piece of shit.

I took the blase response to Ed's bisexuality as just the cultural acceptance of the times. Doesn't matter if he was or wasn't, nobody else really cares.

Roddenberry in Star Trek the Motion picture The Novel said that all humans, except Kirk are Bisexual.

I agree that it is evolved not to give a crap, and with real people I pretend to not give a crap in an accepting way... But suddenly that "No arguments about (Maklons) leaving the toilet seat up" from the pilot makes less sense if Ed spent some of his twenties in relationships with dudes not leaving the seat up, before he hooked up with Kelly.

Why? Just because your into guys along with ladies doesn't mean you aren't familiar with the old cliche joke about women nagging guys about leaving the toliet seat up. Ed Mercer is always sort of making those jokes in order to make people more relaxed and at ease IMO. I think the point of that scene is to show that Bortus doesn't really get humor or at least human humor. I don't think he has the disdain for it like Worf seemed to but just that he doesn't quite get it.

What do you all think about Ja'loja, guys?

I think it reminds me of 'Lower Decks' or 'Data's Day' episode from TNG where we learned more about the crew's back story, while no major new pilot is happening.

It's also a nice filler episode where nothing much is happening. And i have a feeling next week's episode involving Bortus and Klyden will be another filler.

I give Ja'loja 7 out of.10 rating.

The real action will begin when 'Home' is aired in a few weeks' time.

Read the review thread. I'm glad we are getting episode review threads this year instead of keeping it all here. :)

They actually made a video to promote the score set:

They made one for "Superman" as well, and I read somebody on a social media site complained they used the wrong font.

There's also supposed to be a limited edition vinyl coming, but does anybody really want that?

I was amazed when I went to Target a few months ago and saw that they had actually added a Vinyl section by the CDs.
