^ A public health plan wouldn't have to actually be *run* by the government.
Sure, I'd agree with you there. Show me how health care can be given free to all people without some having to pay for others.

I never claimed such a system would work. I just want everyone to be able to receive health insurance without enormous costs. The bankruptcies stemming from medical care should not happen.

I agree with you.
And if that can be accomplished through a government program that does tax the rich at a much higher rate?
The military health system? Medicare? Are you saying these programs are unsuccessful? And the government has already shown it can't successfully execute a health care program.
My taxes went to pay for a war in Iraq I didn't want.As long as it provides affordable options and there's no scenario where I have to pay for someone else's coverage I'm fine with that.

How is it unfair? More importantly how is it stealing? Then it's unfair. And make no mistake, I am not one of the rich. I just don't feel it's right to make people who pay 90% of the taxes in the US have to pay more.

This is true. Poll after poll are showing increasing support for reform and a public option, and most people support the public option once it's been properly explained to them. Finally, the US will catch up to other civilized countries in this respect. And should my books ever sell, should I ever become really successful, I'll be happy to pay higher taxes to help fund it. It is a way to give back to a country that allows someone to go from nothing to something through hard work and determination.Great job with the facts there. Now I can take your arguments seriously!I've been all over europe. The best thing about it is landing in New York and hearing "Welcome to the United States of America"
I honestly don't know, but I can research it. I do know that losing one's job and therefore one's employer's insurance is always a possibility (and one of the reasons so many people are losing their insurance right now). What about employer-provided insurance? Can they do that too?
I strongly encourage you to not debate with this guy any longer - Just remember - the majority of the people of the US have voted against his kind of thinking. Health care reform will go through. Eventually, UHC will happen even in the US (although that will be later on.)

See, this is where you're confused. The infliction of death is a legitimate function of the state. The preservation of life is not.
