The movie franchise after Bad Robot/Pine

I doubt that TPTB care about timelines as such. If it will help sell popcorn, they will set a story in whatever timeline is convenient.

If not going post-Nemesis then thre are a lot of good things they could play with in the Lost Era, I agree, there's a 75 year gap

Or making Sulu captain of the Excelsior could be a good middle ground - you could have a new crew, with appearances from Admiral Kirk, Spock, Uhura etc.

Finish the five year mission then rather than follow exactly the direction the Prime Timeline did, take the characters in a new direction

Hollywood LOVES to recycle old unused ideas.
More like, Hollywood loves to recycle the same previously-used ideas. There have been few original scifi/space operas in recent memory, unless you count the bazillion scifi/action movies starring Tom Cruise.

Also, the Kelvin timeline cast was good, even if the movies were weak. I kinda would hate to see them go.

Star Trek is a premise without a concept. I'm all in favor of another movie franchise with another team, possibly with two stories per movie. It could be reimagined in it's own timeline universe and side step TOS completely. I mean how hard is that really? It's a big universe.
Star Wars seems to be the same thing only in reverse, backwards and upside down. It lacks a new theme.

Romulan war series. all new characters. Band of Brothers in space. It can be done.

It could be done but can you get the general public to come see it? That is the question. All the star trek movies so far have had the benefit of characters that the audience was familiar with prior to the movie.

Is Star Trek strong enough to support a movie with completely new characters? It would be a risk.

My guess is a fresh full on super bombastic remake with elements from TNG thrown in. Open casting on all of the characters, Kirk isn’t necessarily a white guy from Iowa; current tech trends, drones, social media, augmented reality, you name it, everything we have now they’ll have then, unless it’s superseded.

But they will take Trek back to its roots by retelling a classic episode, like WNMHGB, for example, but 2020s style.

So re-cast kirk, spock, mccoy again?

I think re-telling a classic story is a bad idea especially if it was a tv episide originally. That was one of the mistakes into darkness did - trying to re-do an old story. The movies should be all-new stories and not rehashes IMO. People already hesitate some to go to a movie if they get told "it feels like an episode of the show" but to be told "it is a remake of a tv episode".. I don't see that putting butts in seats. People will ask why they should pay $17 to see the same story they can watch on netflix.

Not a remake of an episode, a retelling. With full creative freedom to go anywhere.

2009 was a soft reboot, next up is the full reboot. Not just reboot, but reimplementation on new hardware and an upgraded operating system.

That might have worked in 2009 but you cannot reboot the movie universe yet again this soon. I still think even a re-telling of an old story would be a tough sell with the general public.

I disagree. It’s almost ten years since the first reboot. How many Spider-Man and Batman reboots in recent years. How many versions of superman? How many Sherlocks?

Maybe showing my age, but it was only yesterday that Matt Leblanc did lost in space, and there was a failed pilot and a new reboot since then.

We crossed the threshold of trek characters and trek actors being inseparable.

To the general public, a loud enough marketing campaign for something fresh looking enough, will get bums on seats. The public don’t know about old episodes, or care.

It is ten years since the reboot but the last reboot movie was only a few years ago. That is way too close. You need a few years gap before rebooting again especially if the same characters.

A reimagining - that's when you throw everything out the window including the kitchen sink and start or continue anew fresh with a clean slate but without dumping the universe.

Either another TOS Reboot, a TNG Reboot, or they turn Star Trek into a vehicle for a particular star like they did with Tom Cruise and Mission: Impossible.

I think another TOS Reboot is the most likely of the three. TNG doesn't translate as well to the big screen and I can't see them turning Star Trek into a Star Vehicle.

There won't be another Prime Timeline film. They won't make a movie out of DS9, VOY, ENT, or DSC. You can't do a TOS Movie with the original cast and the TNG cast is too old. So there's nothing to go back to in the Prime Universe. The closest we might've gotten would've been Picard handing the baton off to another Enterprise crew. Which could've happened in the '00s if Nemesis had been successful. But it wasn't, so it didn't, and it's not.

Well if you dump the universe, the only thing that is left is another optimistic space opera that is similar substitute for Trek and I think that is the way to go. Totally reinvent it. It's not the wheel you know.

My fanboy hope would be for them to return to the Prime Timeline and explore the theoretical "2nd" 5-year mission. Fill in the gaps between TMP and TWOK - there's a whole decade worth of untold stories to tell. But I realize that a "new" timeline is more likely if they do make more films beyond Bad Robot.
I'd rather Paramount just leave it alone. Create their own Trek like DSC and move forward, but stop claiming it's in the timeline of TOS. It's insulting. I honestly felt as soon as Spock and Nero plunged into the JJverse, whatever we knew of Trek was dead. Distinguishing Prime and Kelvin gimmicks are not going to resurrect what we knew of Star Trek. Star Trek is Star Trek, no Prime or any other name timeline. It's not coming back. Discovery is supposed to be in the universe of "The Cage." It doesn't look anything like it. And I didn't like where the so-called Prime line was going anyway, there's too much violence and political soap opera going on in the wannabe Prime line in Discovery.

These writers and producers want to make their mark on a project; I don't think they want to honor what was done in TOS, they want to make Star Trek their own--which I feel they should do, but I won't watch it. I'm not sure if Tarantino's take will be with Bad Robot but I'm not sure there's an end point with JJ Abrams. After The Force Awakens he's white hot in La La Land and I doubt there's an end point, but if there was such an end point I think it should be in a new universe. No bone teasing of characters like Spock or Sarak just tell their tale the best they can, and please make this thing utopian.

I'd love to see a truly rebooted, reimagined Star Trek in the vein of Netflix's Lost in Space.

Take two or three TOS episode plots, update them and spread them across 10 or 13 episodes, but give us consequences of Kirk violating the prime directive, and flashback to Young Kirk failing to fire at the cloud monster when he was fresh out of the academy.
