The Most Disliked Episode of VOYAGER - Final Round...

I'm, saving Favorite Son, though I feel dirty saying it. I just think it's quite as bad as the Fair Haven episodes.

And so, it's the final vote, and I think I'll go for Fair Haven. I mean the first one was just, so bad anyway, that I'm surprised the producers thought it was a good idea to do a follow-up. The whole setting isn't particularly realistic for Ireland at the time, and it seems to portray the Irish as bunch of drunk folk isn't very good. Janeway's romance with Sullivan is so dreary that I'm not for it at all in the slightest.

So Spirit Folk comes along, ad they manage to ramp up the stupid to perplexing highs. The crew decide to leave the program running all the time, despite not having much energy. When the crew realise the program is malfunctioning, do they turn it off to sort it out? Nope. The crew's idiotic obsession with the program borders on holo-addiction. The humour throughout the episode is idiotic.

And breathe. :)

One more for Fair Haven.

Out of all the most terrible episodes, at least Fair Haven was exploring a theme that deserved exploring: Janeway's romantic isolation as captain, and her looking for ways to try to meet her intimacy needs. Sure, they explored it badly. But at least they tried.

SPIRIT FOLK - 0
FAIR HAVEN - 2

Fair Haven at least tried to explore the validity of emotional attachments to fictional characters, even if it did it really poorly. Spirit Folk is just... dumb.

I ended the season 6 round by saving "Fair Haven" and making "Spirit Folk" the winner, so I'll do that again! As I said then, they're both dreadful, but "Fair Haven" is slightly more forgivable in that it was the first attempt. By the time "Spirit Folk" rolled around, they KNEW this was a terrible idea not worth revisiting, yet they doubled down on their previous failure and made an even stupider Irish village hour.

SPIRIT FOLK

We now have a 'winner' for Most Disliked Episode of STAR TREK: VOYAGER... and that is "SPIRIT FOLK".

I think this is the first time that a 'winner' did not get a single point in the final round... for ANY series. It did truly deserve to win, though most of the last half dozen fit the bill.

Thank you all for voting. I will start STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE in a few hours.

I honestly want to know what the producers and writers were thinking with the last two episodes. They are almost impossible to see any good in. The entire concept of Fair Haven was a terrible idea. It could have been fine in a few small doses, but devoting 2 full episodes to them was just ridiculous.

Plus being part Irish, the whole concept did seem to be a giant stereotype.

I'm not offended by it, but it was about as eye-rolling as TNG's "Up The Long Ladder". But at least that episode had the excuse of being in the 80s in the 2nd season of a show, not the 2000s in the 6th season of a show.

The idea of Janeway turning to holodeck fantasies to meet her need for intimacy because she had to maintain distance from the crew was a decent idea.

Just, doing it with a patronizing 'Idealized history' fantasy, and a story about trying to maintain the fantasy regardless of power needs even when under attack was absolutely ridiculous.
