Well, exactly! That for me is the whole point of the episode. The reality that Harry finds himself in is hardly desirable (despite the veneer), and in any case he feels that he's abandoned his shipmates.

And they didn't stop upon his return. Note that after "Pathfinder", the decision to give Harry his hollow pip was more theirs than Janeway's.

It shows that had he not gotten lost in the DQ how successful his career could have been.

Hence my general opinion that the VOY showrunners had the IQ of a blueberry muffin, given that they actually expected us to believe that it made sense to have him make lieutenant in 8 months in one reality, and be an ensign indefinitely in another.
