Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

I've been pretty happy with The Mandalorian's ratio of arc based episodes to stand alones.
What ratio? They are all standalone. This show can go back to the early 90s where it belongs, someone page Disney and tell them we're in the golden age of television now. This kinda shit don't fly no more.

I agree with your take, but technically they're not all "standalone", as episode 3 was a continuation of episode 1 (and was easily the best episode, since it actually mattered.)

Yeah, I guess you're right - the beginning made it seem like it'd be more than nostalgia-fest 2019.

I'm loving the hell out of the series. I just caught up with Chapter 6 and this show is well written, well acted, and it's fun! I'm not usually a western fan, and this is clearly a space western set in the Star Wars universe, but it's so interesting, and I can't wait to see what the Mandalorian will do next as he tries to protect the child from everyone who is out to seek fame and fortune.

I have spoken.

We should take a vote on how many here saw that when it originally aired.

Damn kids
I watched it a while back on Youtube, and it was interesting in a what the hell were they thinking kind of way. I still want to know who the hell thought it was a good idea to have several unending minutes of Wookies making noises at each other without any subtitles.

I'm sure I watched the holiday special. I must've blocked it out because I don't remember see it. But I devoured anything Star Wars back then so I must have.
Well, you can always WATCH IT AGAIN...(the gift that keeps on giving)...:wtf::whistle:;)

People seem to like the show. So it seems it does fly. Why would Disney change it?
That's the part that doesn't make sense. People seem to accept vintage mediocrity as long as its called Star Wars. Except not in the movies. In movies it's totally unacceptable.

A running series and a film have different standards of acceptability. That said, Mando has a quality of filmcraft the franchise has never seen before.

Says who? Seems to be flying just fine gauging the audience reaction. And, as pointed out, it's not fully standalone. The episodes do usually have some connective tissue leading Mando from one place to the next, and consequences that set into motion later events.

I love TNG, which had a more standalone type of storytelling. I love DS9, which is more heavily serialized. I tend to prefer serialization, and that certainly the preferred style of the day for subscription-based TV shows, but you can have well-made examples of either type.

I was engrossed and amazed by Watchmen's heavily serialized narrative full of deep cut references and real world history interspersed with excellent worldbuilding / expanding, and I'm enjoying the hell out of The Mandalrian's simpler straightforward Spaghetti Western style storytelling format too. Enjoying both isn't mutually exclusive.

This. The caliber of the actors, the immersive music and sound effects, the gorgeous shooting locations, the cinematography, the dialogue, there's nothing mediocre about the effort being put into it. Like I said, I'm not one for the western genre in general, so it has to be something really special for me to pay attention. I loved Firefly when it came out, and now Mandalorian gets to scratch my clever space western itch. I hope it continues.

There are folks out there with agendas.
More like folks who prefer to complain than anything else. Has existed pretty much since forever and has only been accentuated by the Internet, which allows more reactionism to fine a safe place to land.

I don't care for the Mandalorian, but I personally have no problem with it continuing forward. It is popular, making Disney money and seems to be well produced. It's ok that it's not for me.

Great episode. That Baby can heal people with the Fopce was the only thing I don't like.. it was
definitely a way to connect with Rey's new force power in TROS
But the rest of the episode is damn awesome omg I can't believe they
killed the uggnaught, my favorite character.

Not necessarily.

He could be near death, saved by his repurposed droid, and now Mando will trust one droid. Or maybe the droid will go nuts that his "father" was killed and join Mando that way.
