I think The Mind's Eye is the weakest episode here. It's fun enough, but lacks the depth of the others.

Heart of Glory. Easily the worst, like I said before, I dislike klingon episodes (well, most of them), klingons are often ridiculous caricatures. What I remember most about this episode is the klingon death scream.

The Mind's Eye. It's a solid episode, but the others on that list all have at least a little something extra to recommend them.

Heart of Glory is a steaming pile of horseshit that led to the ruin of Klingons for years to come. Worf was a buffoon, the acting was horrible, and the story was paper thin.

My afinity for Tapestry has decreased as I have gotten older. It was such a cool, original episode back in 1993. Now it seems so small scale in that it revolves around some hot headed cadets getting into a fistfight because they lost a futuristic game of pool. Not a bad show but not up to par with the best of TNG.

Gonna have to vote for Heart of Glory. Solid by the standards of Season 1, but seeing a story in which "oh, we were totally attacked by a Ferengi ship armed with Klingon weapons" is treated as anything other than a pathetically stupid lie, and in which Worf reacts to the revelation that the Klingon trio destroyed another Klingon vessel by shrugging his shoulders and giving them a tour of engineering... yeah, it's got to go.

In defense of Heart of Glory, which looks like it will be the first to get beamed out, this show epitomizes what I love about the first season, besides the awesome music and Rob Bowman's energetic direction. The crew discovers something unexpected and the audience and the crew experiece the evolving story together. It starts with the awe of seeing what Geordi sees with his visor and then the story takes a dramatic turn when Klingons are discovered. This ep is also the first real Worf show and he gives one of his best speeches about courage. "The true test of a warrior is not without, it is within."

I just don't feel like "The Mind's Eye" is on the same level as the others.

I agree with the sentiment that The Mind's Eye is just a cut below the rest -- it's a fine episode, but it's the only one here that's not special in some way.

So, that kicks the first one, and back to zero we go...

Tapestry just hadn't aged well. I like the theme of the episode which is that our past experiences shape us in ways we cannot appreciate, and that we can't clean up our past without changing who we are in present. That being said the episode hinges on starfleet officers sulking over a lost game of pool. I didn't buy that nor did I buy the idea that Picard would become a listless officer because he didn't have a close call with death.

The season 1 episodes are the only ones who I wouldn't put in the top 30 or so TNG episodes, so I vote for Heart of Glory. It is one of the better season 1 episodes, just the dialog in the entire episode is so forced it's hard to get into. Plus that episode establishes Klingons as sort of a defeated people and they weren't made into anything else until later.

Sticking with Heart of Glory; again, it's good for Season 1, but bought down by a couple of major plot holes.

I like Heart of Glory, but I like it as one of the better season one episodes. That's a pretty low bar when compared to the others on the list, so off it goes and we reset for the next round.

Reunion. Another klingon episode, stupid political drama and more moronic klingon traditions.
Alexander is introduced and immediately emotionally abused by Worf who has him look at his mothers dead body and then leaves to kill Duras leaving the child.
