The Last of Us (HBO)

Another big change from the game no one mentioned yet is the new idea that the infected are all connected through mycelium, and from the inside the episode, it sounds like they're getting rid of the idea of getting infected from masses of spoors floating in the air.
I really liked the introduction of the Clickers, they did a great job of adapting them from the game.
The stuff in Jakarta in the beginning was pretty interesting, and a nice bit of new backstory for the outbreak.

Also I still don't get why in all the scenes from the start of the pandemic, all the scientists are just assuming there's no cure. Again, we cure fungal infections all the time, they have not justified why these people assumed without even trying there isn't a cure. They should have tried standard cures before realizing they didn't work.
Jock itch and athlete's foot are both fungal infections, and they're treated all the time. I think they're actually the same fungus.
Easter egg, Tess' lighter is also Sam's lighter in Uncharted 4.
Cool, I missed that.
As for the episode in general, I really enjoyed it. The actors are all doing a great job, and the introduction of the Clickers really showed how dangerous they are.
I just thought of a possible reference to the came, Ellie wrapping her arm after she got bit. For those who haven't played the games, in them any time you used a medical kit the characters wrapped a bandage around their arm, and that healed them.

Cool.
Now, I can't help but wonder if we might get some kind of Jak & Daxter reference at some point.

Just finished it, good episode. Liking Bella Ramsey she's got the snarky wit.

I've never played the game and I didn't get that impression because Pedro Pascal's character did say that the infected were in some way connected because when you aroused one, other infected in other areas would also be alerted and come running and you would be surrounded. That in fact happened in the the safe house. He shot one that was getting up, and that alerted every infected in the area, even those outside of the earshot range of the gunshot.

I heard it said that the reason they did it that way was for TV drama purposes. They didn't want to obscure the actors' faces with masks, so that was one modification they made.

Showrunner Craig Mazin explained that this change came out of a need to build a bit more believability into the show’s world. “If we put spores in the air,” Mazin told Comicbook, “it would be pretty clear that they would spread around everywhere and everybody would have to wear a mask all the time.” It’s a welcome change as we’d have been robbed of Pedro Pascal’s wonderfully expressive face like we were in that other show where he’s escorting another young person with special physiological characteristics. The world is full of original ideas.

Good 2nd episode. I was proud of Tess for going out on her own terms. I'm liking this show more than I thought I would.

I wasn't expecting Tess to die in 2nd episode:wah:. Such a great character gone too soon. They made such a good team with Joel.

I am not sure about North America but in South East Asia, where i am from, Cordyceps is usually taken as a health supplement. In fact, i know many people who take this particular supplement.

Oh wow.... Well, the missus and I are planning to go to Italy in the next year or so. I bet the crust has eggs, though, which, at least for my wife, is a no-no.. Oh well! She can have a salad! :D
...Eggs??? ...What...?

Is it like when Americans are convinced they eat Italian dishes that no one in Italy knows, like spaghetti with chicken? :sigh:

Eggs are not used in the pizza dough (not even in the gluten-free one). At best they can be used as a topping. :)

Interesting. I guess I just assumed eggs were in the dough. LOL.. I used to work at a pizza place here and made the pizzas, but I never actually made the dough. That does look delicious, just minus the eggs. :D

When you come to Rome, send me a pm so I can suggest you a couple of places (obviously gluten-free! ;))

Thanks! I'll take you up on that. No firm plans as of yet, just some very early stage plans. Ideally, we want to start in either France or Spain and then do Italy/Sicily after we've stayed in Andorra (bucket list destination for me).

It seems an excellent plan! Just a suggestion, if you celiac and not just gluten-intollerant, plan you trip in Sicily in advance ;)

This is a guide for celiac-friendly restaurants in Italy so you can be sure.

Oh very cool. Thank you again! My wife and I are both just gluten intolerant. Her allergies go well beyond that (eggs, corn, corn byproducts, peanuts, soy, etc) though, so we always have to be careful. We rarely eat out, so the thought of eating while traveling abroad is daunting. LOL.

My suggestion, just translate all the ingredients that you allergic of in the local language, print them on a sheet titled "ALLERGIES" (well, translate the title too!) and show it to the waiter. This will make everyone's life easier ;)
