The Killing (AMC) Discussion

My brother's flatscreen is way bigger than my laptop monitor.

Found the next encore airin' of last night's episode, set the DVR for it. And set the DVR for Sunday night's episode, too, just in case.

Well, damn, AMC on Demand only has the first three episodes available. They don't have last week's or last night's listed.

Wow that is bullshit!

They actually had last week's episode last week, I watched it and now it's gone.

Fuck you AMC, you can't just ditch fans without and warning.

only the first 4 episodes will be online, after that you actually need to watch the show...

Alright, looks like AMC pulled its head out of its ass and added last week's & last weekend's episodes of The Killing to the On Demand menu.

Both are labelled as "new,' so ya know it just happened today.

Watchin' 'Super 8' now.

I don't know if AMC is planning on a 2nd season...if they do, I don't know if I would come back. I'm curious about this mystery, but, it's becoming more and more of a intellectual curiosity for me than an emotional HAVE TO KNOW thing.

Maybe it's because I'm so used to the pace of other shows, but... the slow unraveling of the teacher's involvement... didn't work for me...

BUT, I did like the ending... that poor Billy Campbell, he cannot catch a break.

Do anyone think it was a bit odd how the father's co-worker immediately knew which kid had wet the bed and quietly cleaned the sheets and pajama pants for him? Maybe it's just because he's in the opening credits and hasn't done anything this season so far that it struck me odd.

A wet bed can smell to high heaven. Ya don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out which kid peed.

Did they call the coworker uncle at some point? If they did, maybe he's married to the aunt and she told him so he could have a man-to-man chat or something.

Well I guess I was wrong about that last idea, but the latest episode sure adds some intrigue to the aunt - either I missed something or they haven't really given us enough to go on to understand what's going on. Who was the guy at the funeral she said hi to who snubbed her?

I suspect it's going to turn out that Rosie was not dead when she was seen being taken away from that apartment. Again, there are just too many episodes left to have essentially solved the case at this point, although I do think it's possible the teacher and his wife thought she was dead.

This was a good episode but I am now entering the stage of worrying they can't sustain the quality without some weird plot twists.

Who was the guy Sarah's partner was conferring with in the car? At first I thought maybe he was both law enforcement and the guy's Narcotics Anonymous sponsor or something. But I wasn't sure if we had seen him before.

I really liked this episode. Especially how Sarah is frustrated with a lot of things and allows her partner to break a few rules, something I don't see her letting happen at the start of the show. Of course who knows what trouble they're in now?

And it looks like while Stan has tried to leave behind his violent past, his wife may have decided she is going to do something bad.

I finally made some headway on this and man shows these days are either so fast paced it leaves your head spinning where you can't really enjoy what is happening the first time through because the writers are throwing tons of information at you at a breakneck speed i.e. LOST or are as slow as molasses like The Walking Dead, Mad Men or Rubicon. Funny how shows used to could find a happy middleground where you didn't pack a show with a ton of brief scenes or didn't have such labored scenes.

I love a good murder mystery but this is too glacially paced and has way too many quiet scenes to the point I find my attention drifting during points of the episode--sleepy doesn't begin to describe it. A lot of the stuff is routine. The political stuff doesn't interest me in the slightest--it is run-of-the mill.

I will say the series does an excellent job in capturing the devastation of the loss of a child in no small part to Michelle Forbe's performance.

This show is definitely suited as a mini-series and not a multi season series. I am going to try to stick with it since I am curious about the killer but everything else including Linden's personal life and Holder's past has zero interest for me.

Man, I don't know about the reveal at the end of the latest episode. I'm beginning to think I'd prefer a six episode miniseries and have it be about a murder with a simpler motivation. This is starting to have 24 style plot twists.

Still, I enjoyed the acting and most of the way it was handled, so I could come around.

Finally watched the latest episode and I still find the series very sluggish and hard to pay attention to. The only thing that draws me in are Michelle Forbes' performance and wanting to find out who killed Rosie--the rest eh. The rest of the show is very predictable--the political back-and-forth, a mistress in the mix, FBI, Muslim terrorists. Yawn.

I will stay with the show until the end but what is with the glacial pacing of all the AMC shows I have tried--Mad Men, Rubicon and now this.

The slow pace of the series didn't really start to bother me until about episode 6-7. I was happy this week seemed to pick up a little bit, at least in terms of finally trying to make Linden an interesting character. I think the bland lead had been the reason I was losing interest. There was a little fire back this week though and I'm looking forward to watching her (hopefully) start to spiral into obsession.

I've also started to lose interest in the political stuff. I really hope some payoff is coming before the finale to keep me involved. And it's strange, but the whole question of "who killed Rosie", which should be the driving focus of the whole show, doesn't seem to be getting much attention. It's almost an afterthought at this point, and I find I care less about that question than I do other aspects of the show.

I'm still enjoying overall, but if the show does get a second season I don't know that I'll keep watching, unless this season ends spectacularly.

I think a problem with "realish time" shows like 24 or this is that you can't follow the main character/plot the whole time. Which means the other characters/plots better be just as interesting or close.

I find myself teetering on the edge with the political subplot. It's usually not that interesting, but it has a few good moments. I think Billy Campbell is doing a good job and is the primary reason I am not completely bored with it.

The pace has started to wear on me in the last couple episodes as well, which makes me think I should have waited until the first season had aired and then watch it over the course of a few nights. Overall the show is just interesting enough that I'll keep watching. Or just not quite bad enough for me to stop. I think if I knew I was in for a 22 episode season I might drop it. And if it ends without resolving the Rosie murder, well, I'll be pretty annoyed I wasted my time.

Okay, tonight's episode won me back. Really like how it opened the mystery back up and it puts into play a lot of the other plots, allows the possibility they can really connect back with the main story. This was probably my favorite episode so far in the series, although it's a little weird rating individual episodes, since this one puts a lot of what I was struggling with in the last couple episodes in a different light in retrospect.

Stan and Mitch lost all of my sympathies tonight. Send those two idiots to prison. This show is all tease and no payoff and who cares who killed Rosie when we don't even know who she is.
