The Killing (AMC) Discussion

I'm still with it. But... I wish they would pack in a little bit more into an episode. For me, because there is so much decompression, when there is a twist or a revelation they kinda land flat for me. Like the reveal of the councilman's plan, or the reveal of the teacher... ok...great... but... It didn't feel like an OMG!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! moment that I want it to be.

This week's episode really dragged. I agree that there's no "holy crap" moment like I get with other shows.

I liked Day Four just fine and the pace is working for me. I think it's possible the teacher/student thing isn't even exactly an affair. I mean that teacher, unless he has some side job, probably couldn't afford those shoes.

Hopefully they can keep the quality and pace consistent. I guess at this rate I'd assume the funeral with happen near the finale.

The teacher thing fits perfectly into the show. I was starting to think they showed that one teacher a few too many times, and then kept showing him in the reviews. It makes sense, which is nice, but isn't a "OMG!" moment.

She still had to have something to do with the campaigns. I'm thinking the woman the congressman is sleeping with... Every show needs a bisexual!

I think it's not an OMG moment because it's so early in the series, I'm pretty certain it's not going to be him. We're still in the process of actually investigating Rosie and her mystery.

this weeks episode seemed to follow the canidate and his issues than the murder.
I understand character development but come on this is sopposed to be about rosie.
also loved the hole family grieving bit is the father sopposed to be in with the mafia?
or is the mob in seattle?

I'd argue the point is to try and provide a rich tapestry of characters and their lives surrounding the murder. We don't know how all this connects to Rosie's murder yet, but isn't this better than having the suspects be two-dimensional characters? If we really follow these characters and get to know them, the identity and circumstances of the murder will have a lot more impact when revealed.

The other side is having the investigation unfold at a more realistic pace than L&O/SVU. It's not like they stopped investigating - we had the interviews with the two teen suspects, with Rosie's friend, and we had the second search of her room and the guy riding the bus and finding out where Rosie had been heading after school. And this was all in one day. A day where we also got more development with the lead detective's fiancee and are learning he's a pretty decent guy but human. He can get angry at her for the investigation but also make nice gestures like bringing the cake to her. And he's frustrated but still trying to connect to her son.

And then we have the dialogue about "it" happening again. "Chasing after a dead girl." Combine that with the knowledge of the city councilman's wife story that has been hinted at and we have a lot of stuff that is bound to be explored and may directly or indirectly connect to the main murder.

who do you think is repsonisable for the leak to the press?

:shrug::shrug::shrug: I don't think it's mayor adams. I think
its somebody on his staff not sure who?

^For the love of god, I can't take it anymore!!!

SPELLCHECK!
SPELLCHECK!
SPELLCHECK!

Why is it so hard to do????

I tried to ignore it. I did truly give it a pass, but I can't help it. I just see your posts in too many threads! You're driving me insane!

I apologize, but at the same time, for my sanity, I implore you to use the spellcheck once in a while.

I thought it had great acting and realism, especially in the performances by Forbes and Sexton when they found out their daughter was dead.

Though I find Sarah's partner absolutely irritating and detestable. Him being a main character almost killed the whole thing for me; he's that unlikable. Which was probably their intention, but still, he's hard to take.

I am DVR'ing the series and watched all the episodes to date yesterday. Overall, I agree with Bored's comments.

However, the reason for the new partner being such a creep starts to make sense as the series goes on.

First, the partner's prior experience as a narc is actually useful when the series starts exploring the teenage drug culture that may or may not be involved in her murder. Second, and perhaps more importantly, it gives her another reason to stay on the case rather than quit the force as planned (the partner is too new at homocide investigations, has no skill at working with victims' families, and would just screw it up without her).

Excellent show. Probably the best drama on TV right now (meaning until new eps of Mad Men and Southland show up).

There is a catch up marathon this weekend. If you're not already watching, I'd suggest you give it a try.

I still don't trust Gwen. Screwing your candidate when you're his campaign manager isn't a good idea. Sarah's partner is weird. He's got a ton of secrets and what? He pointed out that he's celibate???

Well unless the mayor killed Rosie with his own bare hands, it looks like Richmond's campaign is toast with him being front and center with Bennet now. They sure have the fickle superficial nature of voters down cold.

When Rosie's dad finds out who the cops are investigating, will he impale Bennet with a pipe and say, "Let off some steam, Bennet"? Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

What was Sarah's partner doing at the end of the episode? My first take was putting some of that money into the mailbox at Rosie's family's house, but it was such a quick shot.

The celibacy thing was definitely an odd comment, although it wasn't out of nowhere since the topic of the conversation was how Sarah's questions were more fit for someone who had a different kind of relationship with him. Hard to say if more will come of it.

I'm with Dorian Thompson - I still get a weird, untrustworthy vibe from Gwen. I am at a point where I no longer suspect Richmond, though. The stuff with the teacher would have me leaning toward him as the killer if there weren't eight episodes to go.

And I don't really know where I'm at with Holder, Sarah's partner. He isn't making an effort to hide the money from Sarah, which suggests it isn't some horrible secret. But that + whatever was going on with him and the mailbox + the celibacy/personal reasons comment = odd for sure.

Well, damn, AMC on Demand only has the first three episodes available. They don't have last week's or last night's listed.

And I couldn't watch last night 'cause my brother bought a new Wii & hooked it up to the same tv as the cable...
