The Killing (AMC) Discussion

I thought it was a complete waste of time. I understand it was a character-centric one revolving around her, but did the search for her son really have to take up the entire freakin' episode? She should have just listened to her partner in the first place. Save us 43 minutes of meandering. Good lord.

And another thing. I think there was a giant plot hole about the detectives not checking the phone records early on. If whatshisface said he heard Rosie use the phone to call somebody so that she could meet up with. Isn't it usually standard procedure to check the phone records on these types of shows?

Yeah... I have say, I was pretty bored. Especially when she didn't think to call her ex-husband. That's pretty stupid. They could have dealt with it by having the partner say, "call his father" and she could have given some reason why. But, to not do it... just seems dumb.

AND, I wouldn't have minded the episode if she was DOING something, but wandering around the city and talking about the past... not compelling for me. I got a "history" lesson about the character. Who cares? Let's see and hear about the history seeing her in ACTION.

Seeing her in ACTION and not getting anywhere, interesting.
Seeing her sit and not getting anywhere, not interesting.

I give the show runner points for creativity, but, it didn't work for me.

Yep. At the very least, it would've given the cops an idea that SOMEONE was in the house days earlier in the investigation.

I was with this show for the first few episodes, but, I'm not coming back if there is a season two.

Yeah, me neither. They made a bit of headway last week, only to ruin any momentum they had going into the final stretch with this episode.

I had high hopes for this being a really compelling murder mystery but it is a bore. If I hadn't already invested time in the show and there being two episodes left I'd drop it, I certainly can't recommend it to anyone wondering about it.

It is like the whole show is an exercise in how slow a tv show can be.

I love character studies, so I really enjoyed this episode, and both Mireille Enos and Joen Kinnaman gave great performances. But I think the episode was misplaced - I would have preferred it around episode 5-6, I think. This close to the end of the season, tension should be amping up for the climax of the season, not taking a breather like this. And yeah, "I was with my dad" was a pretty big letdown.

I love character studies too. The Fly episode of Breaking Bad is awesome.

I agree, it's misplaced... we only have two left.
AND, I don't think it was very good. I got a better sense of what kind of character HE is than her. I learned a list of facts about her, but I still find her so... removed, it's hard to be engaged with her as a character.

They really need to renew it already because I'd like to see the trial because it's impossible to close up everything in two episodes.

I'm enjoying the show but have zero interest in watching a slow trial unfold over 13 episodes. This is a show that I'm glad they made but I hope is a one-shot deal.

I liked it when Holder finally saw the kid and said, "Kick his ass." Interesting, but it spoke well of Lund, that her first instinct wasn't to go kill her kid after she saw that he was alive. When her social worker spoke of her nearly losing custody in an earlier episode, she must have meant to the state as opposed to her ex. That earlier remark about Sarah having been staring at the walls in a hospital was telling, and Sarah saying it was all on her in regards to her son's care. Lund's been through some emotional shit.

After all is said and done, I'm wondering if the good, kind politician isn't responsible after all for Rosie's death. He seems a little too good and honest to be true. Or maybe Weiner gate has me cynical. :guffaw:

I still think it has something to do with Dad's debt to the mob, although next week's episode could be another red herring.

If it does get picked up, I'm sure it'll be a new case and not a court room. Couple of reason.

1. It's called The Killing... not The Courtroom.
2. If they moved to a trial, then the lead characters would change, as we would spend more time in the court room. And they aren't going to do that.

Everything will be closed up in the last two episodes.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new mystery in another season. I have a proper attention span, so I like the slow build. Character centric episodes appeal to me as well.

So, they have chased red herrings for the entire season and now suddenly in the last two episodes the case will advance to the point of revealing the killer? Not the best pacing. Unless it turns out some of those red herrings weren't.

I called it. I knew it was him. :D BWA HA HA!!! I can't imagine he'd be a red herring at this point. Not if he's the one the prostitute remembers. Prostitute played by the lovely Alona Tal, formerly Jo on my favorite program, Supernatural. She looks so much lovelier with the dark hair as opposed to it being dyed blonde.

Helo is Sara's dick ex-husband. Nice.

EDIT---unless.....when Richmond's wife was killed by the drunk driver, her car was forced into a body of water and she drowned, and he was only talking to the prostitute because of that. Richmond may only be a john, not a murderer. Drexler may be trying to set him up. And Terry is a right bitch, chiding Mich for being a "suffocating mother" for pushing Rosie to go to college. Yeah, giving her your ID so she could get into a club underage is really good pareting, Terry, you bitch. :scream:

I think Richmond is the final herring. Maybe blonde boy campaign guy did it....
