The Future of DS9

Leeta=Runs Quark's bar on DS9 now that Quark owns the station. Still married to Rom though they are going to be apart for 3 years do his job on the ship going to the DQ. Rom and Leeta had a girl who is in a private school on Bajor.

Morn=Same job and still spends half of his time in Quarks bar sitting in his seat. Only he is now blind. The latinum he kept in his stomach had a negative effect on his health.

Garak=Lives in a remote cabin away from people on Cardissa. Writes books about his theories on life. Keeps to himself mostly. Has expanded his interests in art beyond his home planet and is interested in getting stuff from other cultures. Jake is one of his favorite writers along with Shakesphere and even has gotten into old James Bond movies even though tv shows is something most people even on earth are no longer into.

Martock=Still head of the Klingon Empire. His wife was killed in a assignation attempt but has remarried.

Zek and Quark's mom have passed away.

Brunt=Head of the FCA though he spent 3 years in prison because he went broke and tried to cheat the government. He got the job because he once dated the new Nagus's daughter when they were teenagers.

Female Changling=Still in Federation prison. Like mentioned Odo sometimes visits. Spends most of her time in liquid shape.

Shakkar=Retired and back to living on a farm.

Vic Fontaine=Bashir brought him back to earth. Vic though sometimes leaves the holodeck with one of those things the EMH had. Plus he likes to explore alien worlds and even future earth via the holodeck now that he is up and running all the time.

Admiral Ross=Retired from Starfleet but in charge of a task force to arrest Orion Syndicate operatives working out of earth.

They shouldn't have to all be heads of state, ambassadors, and command officers, but that's a particularly miserable end for Bashir. Possible, but more likely he'd just be an average medical researcher who never does such distinguished work as he did on DS9 again.

Sisko and Kassidy: Retired together on Bajor.
Kira: World-weary. Wants to retire. Commandant of DS9.
Dax: 25 years later? Probably working with Starfleet MEdical as a counselor or therapist.
Bashir: Still in his prime due to genetic alteration. Has to step away from public life. Runs his own laboratory or hospital in a backwater area.
O'Brien: Still teaching. Divorced.
Quark: Has it it big. Own's a chain of restaurants spanning Ferengi, Federation and Klingon space.
Rom: Still the Nagus, but Leeta is the power behind the throne.
Nog: He's passed. It was a sacrifice heroic enough to get ships named after him 800 years later.
Odo: He's given up his identity in order to introduce a strain of compassion into the Great Link. If we see him again it will not be in his same guise.
Worf: Ambassador to the Federation. Brooding. Rebuilding the House of Mogh.
Garak: I guess he's the castellan of Cardassia. I honestly feel like he needs more exile, though.

Since I’ve already covered what I think happens in 2399, I will cover the Romulan supernova in 2387 instead and how it affected members of the DS9 crew.

Sisko – There are several unconfirmed Sisko sightings on Bajor and Cardassia. Kassidy Yates has spent time travelling back and forth trying to verify reports while raising their son, not really paying attention to the crisis on Romulus.

Odo - Frequently visited by Kira throughout the 2380s. A long period where she does not visit him leads him to return to the station. Is stunned to learn of the events on Mars and Romulus.

Kira - Had been approached to be First Minister of Bajor and a potential Kai too. The supernova event causes a severe crisis of faith in Kira. And she grows pessimistic and cynical that the Federation will not protect Bajor.

Worf – Captain of the Enterprise-E. Dropped off Spock and the Jellyfish. Did battle with Nero and the Narada, which led to his first officer Madden being killed and the Ent-E being significantly damaged. His son Alexander almost dies as well, when the Klingons aid in the Battle against the Narada.

Nog – Captaining the Defiant, assisted the Ent-E in the Battle against the Narada. Awarded medal for his service afterwards by Admiral Nechayev. Considered heavily decorated by this point.

Ezri – Commanding the USS Aventine, was on assignment in the Badlands at the request of the Federation to look for those giving shelter to synthetic life. Reports tuned out to be false, intentionally by the Federation, to draw her away from plans to go the Romulus. Almost withdrew her commission over it, but continued in her position.

Bashir – The supernova event leads him to investigate Section 31 for several years, as a Romulan supernova threatening the entire galaxy should not have been scientifically possible. Is being covertly aided by the Typhon Pact, who also want to know if the Romulan sun was tampered with.

O’Brien – Protesting anti-synth policies at the Academy. This puts him at odds with Keiko, who – even though she missed Data like O’Brien - feels that the Federation had been becoming too dependent on synthetic life and has no been a fan of the influx of technology Voyager brought back from the Delta Quadrant.

Rom – As Grand Nagus, was dealing with mass protests to his new policies and was on the verge of being deposed when the supernova happened. After the supernova, protests subsided. Leeta has managed to amass a surprising amount of power of her own while Rom is the Grand Nagus, and in some smaller circles, considered to be more powerful than him.

Quark – Supernova event encourages him to start expanding his business to other star systems, believing that life is too short to remain on just DS9.

Jake – Detained after his investigative reporting into the policy decisions of the Federation regarding synths and Romulans becomes problematic to them.

Garak - Similar situation to Kassidy Yates, but investigating presumed sightings of Gul Dukat on various Cardassian vessels and outposts.

Martok – Managed to convince the Klingon Empire to assist with the Romulan refugee efforts once news of the Federation abandoning their own efforts reached Qonos. Led to his support to soar to levels not seen since the days of Chancellor Gorkon a century earlier.

Typhon Pact – First announced on DS9 and having been in existence since the early 2380s, they managed to give refuge to the most powerful and wealthy in the Romulan Empire. Conspiracy theories abound that the supernova was done intentionally to weaken the influence of the new alliance, which was managing to put growing Federation and Klingon influences in check. As the Typhon Pact is presumed to have filled a power vaccum left by the absence of the Dominion and the Cardassian Union in the Alpha Quadrant.

DS9 – Has gone through a significant refit, and debates are ongoing as to whether it is time to rename the station, as it is no longer considered to be in deep space. Was commanded by Chakotay at the time of the supernova, after he was relieved of command of Voyager. Already bothered that he had been unable to locate the whereabouts of former student Ro Laren while in command at the station – a personal mission he engaged in once he returned to the Delta Quadrant – the failings of the Federation in regards to the supernova led him to abandon his post at the station and resume his Maquis activities. But with Cardassian supporters this time, who feel the Federation has been concerned more about Romulus than rebuilding Cardassia.

I can live with most of it, except for one thing.

Quark must be the bar owner on DS9. I just can't imagine the station without Quark.

Maybe Garak could be there too, maybe as Cardassian Ambassador on Bajor and DS9. Then both my favorites will be on the station.

By the way, i'm just about to start re-reading "A Stitch In Time", the excellent Garak biography.

Then again, I can't imaging Quark without having Odo around to butt heads with.
I wonder if Quark and Natima Lang got together again after the war. Assuming, of course, that Natima survived it.

To be really honest, I want the whole gang back on DS9.
Sisko, Kira, Odo, Bashir, O'Brien, Ezri, Quark, Garak, Worf, Nog, Jake, Kasidy, Rom, Leeta, Morn........all of them.
OK, difficult to bring Jadzia back but if it would be possible, then I would like her back too.

And when we are at it, add Ro Laren and Kes as well.

That would be perfect!

B. Sisko – Has evolved to become a member of the Q continuum
Kira – Has been become the head of a federation anti-war campaign group
Worf – Has retired from Starfleet and opened up a bat'leth training school
Bashir – Is currently working under cover with section 31
Dax – Working for the family mining business and doing very well
M. O'Brien – Is now the Head Curator of the Smithsonian museum
Odo – Head of security at the great link
Quark – Now runs a chain of hospitality bars throughout the Gamma Quadrant. He is so rich he as gold pressed latinum waste extraction system
J. Sisko – A prominent politician with ambitions to run for Federation President

I dunno. The Q and the Prophets are very different, certainly not the same thing. And having one of their captains be a Q would change the Federation beyond recognition. You did watch "Where No Man Has Gone Before" in TOS, right?

I've said before, but it bears repeating, Bashir hated Section 31 and wouldn't want to touch it with a 10 foot pole, except possibly to destroy it and make public all its secrets and dirty tricks for the past 100 years.

Dax could not wait to leave the mine and her family. I can see that she might leave Star Fleet, but go back to New Sydney? Never to stay, maybe for a short trip when one of her family died or if her brother was being released from prison and needed some help adjusting. Her older brother is clearly going to inherit the mining business, and if he couldn't or didn't want to run it I'm sure Ezri would sell the business rather than move back there.

Miles is an engineer, not a museum curator. If he couldn't be fixing things or making things work better he'd go crazy.

I thought being only modestly successful was an essential part of Quark's character. He's not ruthless enough to be a big-time success in business. If he was that ruthless, he wouldn't have quit the weapons business.

Jake wanted to be a writer and was a good one. Not the sort of person who'd be good at politics.

Probably more difficult to bring back Nog or Odo than Jadzia but it would be nice to have some tale developed to have at least most of them return for a special.

If a few years went by and then Prophet Ben Sisko appeared and stuck around for a while, I can see them throwing a party and everyone coming back to see him again. Even the Grand Nagus or the Chancellor of the Klingon Empire can take a vacation once in a while.

As for a future DS9 series, it would unfortunately be impossible to bring back Nog and Odo. It would never be the same with other actors.

Not to mention that since it the 2020's, they would probably ruin the series, just like everything produced in this century.

But I was thinking of the books or maybe an animated version of the series.

I think they could do a better job with different actors than, say, playing Spock or Pike.

I thought there was novels published where Sisko finished his tenor with the wormhole aliens and returned to Starfleet on a commission of the starship, U.S.S. Robinson. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Rough Beasts of Empire, DS9 novel: Sacraments of Fire)
I haven't read them but it's a start.

Well, sometimes stories end in misery. If it makes it better, once Teplan society stabilizes as the healthy ones start to outnumber the sick ones and they get serious about rebuilding Julian will always be remembered the hero who saved them.

Of course there's no telling what might happen to the planet in the Dominion Civil War I planned in Odo's part of my future ideas... but I'm just gonna say they make it out alright, probably with Federation protection.

Sisko and Kassidy: Retired together on Bajor, while tending to their mutual love of Garak.
Kira: Infiltrated the mirror universe, dispatched that version's Kira, and took over and plotting sweet sweet Cartman revenge.
Dax: Has a new body and counseling all sorts of people while bringing up prior incarnation's stories
Bashir: Running a laboratory... for Kira.
O'Brien: Still teaching, with Keiko. Daughter Molly was married off but lives in the station.
Jake: See Nog below.
Quark: Has it it big. Own's a chain of restaurants spanning Ferengi, Federation and Klingon space.
Rom: Agreeing with @JJRoss: Still the Nagus, but Leeta is the power behind the throne.
Nog: Agreeing with JRoss: He's passed. It was a sacrifice heroic enough to get ships named after him 800 years later.
Odo: Trailing Quark but bored because the only thing he doesn't cook up is trouble. If only he'd read the letters Leeta sometimes sends him...
Worf: What JRoss said: Ambassador to the Federation. Brooding. Rebuilding the House of Mogh.

Rom - The moment he stepped off of DS9, him and Leeta were blown up by an explosive on their ship. There was no way in hell Rom would or could survive 1 hour as the Grand Nagus. No Way NO HOW! R.I.P. Doofus!

Garak - whereabouts? Parts unknown.

Dax - She breaks up with Julian and realizes her feeling for him were platonic. She practices her profession or is assigned to Cardassia to aid the trauma Cardassians are feeling.

O'Brien - Miles leaves teaching Starfleet Academy and is on a search to find Keiko, the kids and her crew who have journeyed into Gamma Quadrant. He will later join the botanist crew.

Bashir - Practices medicine in the outer regions of the Beta Quadrant, discovering new studies in medicine and care for the Cosmos.

Jake - He becomes a spiritual figure on Bajor; finishing the home Benjamin designed and created a temple for Bajorans to worship and celebrate the latest Emissary. Jake uses his writing skills to talk of stories about his Father and the future to come for Bajor.

Quark - He becomes an advisor to the new Grand Nagus and becomes influential in writing new Rules of Acquisitions.

Kira - She's now a supervisor in the occupation of Cardassia; in rebuilding that world in way of garnering peaceful relationships with Bajor and getting a handle on the struggle for Cardassians to adjust to their new reality.

Odo - his story is complete, no need to bring him back.

Sisko - He returns to Bajor a new man, but learns the Emissary has a new mission he must face... as a Starfleet officer and to journey and engage the mysteries of the Gamma Quadrant. This will lead him back to his commission as CO of DS9. He finds out through Jake, Kassidy and his child were killed in a Bajoran tremor where remnants of buildings fell on them. They are buried on his land which Jake has developed.
