Spoilers The Flash - Season 3

He wasn't "taken". He was disintegrated. Dust. Think of the melting Nazi scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

We don't know what happened or where he was taken when he disintegrated.

The point of the scene is that he was erased from existence. He was a time remnant, a relic of a timeline that no longer existed, so he wasn't supposed to exist anymore either. The Black Flash was basically the cosmic eraser coming to eradicate that relic. We know exactly what happened, because it was set up and explained in multiple earlier episodes of both LoT and The Flash. So we know he wasn't "taken" anywhere. He was unmade.

Of course, if the writers want to bring him back later, they could retcon it and reveal that he wasn't actually erased after all, but for the moment, as far as the storyline of LoT was concerned, there was no mystery about what happened; the explicit intention of the scene was that he was being completely eradicated from existence. That's why the "disintegration" effect was so thorough and elaborate, to drive home the idea that his entire essence was being wiped away.

Watched it this morning. I'd like to know how Savitar came in being the first time around and why was he in his past as an earlier Barry Allen would have thrown him into the Speed Force .

That timeline would no longer exist. I don't think it's the current version of the Post-Flashpoint timeline.

The beautiful thing about time travel is that you can always go back into the past of a character's timeline to tell a story about them, as long as you are consistent with what has to happen to the character later. So the Flash writers can always have a past Thawne from before he gets wiped out show up somewhere if they want to.

Thats why I think it must be Flashpoint Barry, S2 time remnant Barry, or original prime timeline Barry. Two of the three of them literally lived a life with living parents only to have it ripped away by our Barry. The third choose to sacrifice himself (only for our Barry to live on and screw up the victory.) I just don't like how Savitar knows exactly what our Barry is going to say, do, live through and experience, if its NOT our Barry, and instead the Flashpoint alternate or a duplicate from before he lived these events. Although, If the speed force allowed this version of Barry (whichever one it is) to survive the changing of the timelines it could also have given him access to the memories of his alternates.

Definitely a lot of explaining to be done, to explain all of Savitar's actions during the first half of the season.

Except it can't be any of those, it has to be this Barry because he remembers things that happened in this episode(going after Tracy, exact words they speak) which never happened in any alternate timeline.

Speedforce Handwave. Or a time loop where he has already witnessed these events from his OWN perspective, not from our Barry's.

This Barry has no reason to have done any of this stuff. Savitar's original arc was awakening the Flashpoint metas. I would prefer the narrative goes back to Flashpoint Universe, and its native Barry. He had his life ripped away so that our version could steal his life for a couple months, then absolutely decimated it. Flashpoint Barry would be livid....

I would really hate to think that it is just our Barry living a groundhogs day of Iris death until it breaks and cracks him or something like that. I hate predestination paradoxes and time loops with no entry point.

The synopsis for next week's ep suggests:

Savitar can tap into current Barry's memories even if he has altered the timeline, similar to how Barry could remember the original timeline during Flashpoint... Except there he was gradually forgetting because he'd undone his own origin and become a paradox. Savitar isn't doing that, though he IS taking advantage of Flash's knowledge of that timeline.

^^
That makes sense.
(Well, as much sense as it's possible when speedforce is involved :D)

Maybe when Barry does something new and changes the timeline, those memories get uploaded into Savitar, since he is from the future.

Thematically it has to be the Flashpoint Barry - also remember that this Barry would have no connection to or reason to care if Iris lived or died, either.

I think this story arc is a good opportunity for Barry to face just how much he is capable of succumbing to evil. Something that Caitlin has run away from - time and again.

I like the thought of this being Flashpoint Barry, but Ithink the writers are going with Barry creating time remnants to defeat Savitar, while Savitar kills them all, until Barry's identity is so fractured that he becomes horcrux level messed up.
No humanity left and he becomes obsessed with creating himself.
Pushing Barry to become faster, hurting him, creating Kid Flash, fulfilling the time paradox.

If its a time remnant, then I hope its last years time remnant, driven insane after disappearing into the Speed Force. If its just a random time remnant that he creates to battle Savitar this season, then there is still no explanation for the loop existing to begin with. Flashpoint kicked this off....

We can't agree what a time remnant is.

Eddie was right.

Barry has to put a gun down his throat and pull the trigger.

All the Flash has to do to save Iris is commit suicide quickly, before he turns evil and doesn't want to anymore.

O.

Is that why his face is fucked up?

A failed suicide.

Shotgun fragmentation all over his face.

A bullet to the brain that does not kill Barry, might just make Barry evil and crazy.

There's a clever conception metaphor in here somewhere.

Gun barrel = penis.

Bullet = sperm.

brain = egg.

Bullet riddled brain/Savatar created = Insemination.

Meh?

If he is a time remnant, he may have been chased by the Wraiths and been disfigured slightly, but escaped. He got fast enough to outrun them.

O.

Barry split the timeline when he went back to get that tachyon shit from not as yet dead thawn. So there's one timeline where Cisco can shoot time wraiths cold, and one where they can't.

There should have been two Barry Allens, at least two, since where did the Barry who lived through the timeline where Cisco and piper invented the anti wraith weapon?

I always assumed Barry overwrote him when he returned, just as he merges with his past self and overwrites them when he goes back to stop weather wizard, and to save Oliver and company.

HR and Tracy, television GOLD right there... perfect chemistry and believable acting.
Eh, she's Beautiful Woman Paid to Act "Comically" Awkward Around Male Main Character #8,576. If she's as smart or smarter than the dorky guy, she can't be into him based on attraction alone; she must be flattered and tongue-tied by his advances.

That said, HR continues to do the show's heavy lifting of keeping these grim eps bearable. And now I want a supercut of characters discussing which of them will hustle after the person who's just stormed off into the hallway in a huff.

What if Savitar is a time aberration created by Flashpoint, similar to Professor Stein's daughter? And just like Stein subsequently developed memories of raising his daughter, Future Flash Savitar knows everything Barry knows.
