I read in my newspaper that Australians have banned the Easter Bunny and replaced him with the Easter Bilby. I was wondering how much of this is true... You really can't trust journalists these days, now can you? 
It is not true 
but we don't do the easter bunny to the same extent America does (no idea how much of a thing he is in the UK). I don't think I've known any families where the easter bunny was a thing like santa, more a mascot of the chocolate egg eating day.
We can buy easter bilbies though from several companies, but they aren't ubiquitous. We are more eggs than rabbits anyway.

the notion of the easter bilby has been around in Australian for years - it's a national trait that we sometimes put our one spin on things - bit like how Santa use to hitch six huge kangaroos to his sleigh (well before rolf harris fell from grace anyway).
and if it's a story that has it's origins in a new paper owned by rupert murdoch take it with enough salt to dry a side of beef. They're just as much gutter trash as his U.K ones.
