The computer voice on next Trek TV series - actor

It's nice for getting driving directions or querying Google. I would not trust it in a critical situation.
But that's about to the extent anyone every "talks" to the computer in Star Trek. It's usually asking for directions to Sci-Pi-Cookie-Alpha or searching Starfleet Wiki. For everything else, there's chicken-pecking LCARS.

It's essentially the same as phones today. And the functionality will probably be ubiquitous in business/work/military environments within the next generation.

With todays technology they could have it sound like Majel if they wanted to.

Samuel Jackson.
"Computer, locate the Captain."
"The mother****ing captain is in his mother****ing shower you mother****er!!!"

It would be "criminal" not to use Majel's voice, assuming the computer will respond verbally.

That might be overstating it a ton.

ST has already used many different computer voices. Majel's voice is iconic, and she was well loved by all - no doubt about that. But to use a different voice wouldn't be as out of line as you suggest.

I might have suggested Judi Durand but everyone would then wonder why the Discovery had a Cardassian computer voice. :cardie:

Although I believe Judi did do the Spacedock voice in ST III ("Danger! Space doors are CLOSED!!!!!" :guffaw: ).

Talking to computers is a Trek tradition...it's supposed to be future tech, it's not supposed to be used exactly how we use computers today. And it makes better dramatic sense, as we're in on the conversation when somebody searches for information on a computer.

They should get Robin Curtis. Her reading of the "David is dead" line is perfect for a computer.

David is dead. To grieve, press 1. To seek revenge, press 2. To capitulate to his captor's demands, press 3. For a list of other options, press 4.

Can we all agree if Marina Sirtis becomes the voice of the new computer, I called it first :D:guffaw:

If you really follow tradition, Fuller's significant other should be the voice.
Federation computers ..... Gene's wife Majel
DS9 Computers..... Ricks' wife (iirc)
Babylon 5 ... JMS's wife (iirc)
Quantum Leap .... Bellasarios' wife (Deborah Platt)

I always wondered who the DS9 Cardassian computer voice was. Good stuff.

Rick Berman's wife is named Elizabeth, and doesn't appear to have been involved in Star Trek in any way.

Judi Durand was the voice of the Cardassian computers on DS9 (and the voice of Spacedock in Star Trek III, years before Berman's involvement in Star Trek). She's not connected to Berman in any way, and I can't find any information on a significant other for Ms. Durand, so she presumably wasn't married to any of the producers.

The computer voice on Babylon 5 was Haley McLane (also the script supervisor). J. Michael Straczynski's wife (at the time) was Kathryn Drennan, a one-time writer on the show who did not provide any voiceover work.

But yeah, Deborah Pratt was the voice of Ziggy. Even after she divorced Donald P. Bellisario in 1991. Must've been awkward on the set.

We don't talk to our computers.
I talk to mine the whole time, though usually a long line of curses when it doesn't do what I want it too, or any of a number of other stupid little things it decides to do on its own

They managed just fine without it in Enterprise,
too. Who missed it?
Who was really watching ENT?

If Majel's recording can be manipulated to a sufficient level then I'd say they'd be crazy not to use her, she is after all the voice of Starfleet computers. Failing that I'd jump on the Marina Sirtis bandwagon.

Why not both? Separate shuttle and ship voices. Though unlike Majel's voice being that of Number One, without time travel you can't say Deanna Troi provided the voice (in universe).

Douglas Rain is apparently still alive, so I say he should be the voice.

But perhaps Fuller has already asked him and he answered: "I'm sorry, Bryan, I'm afraid I can't do that!"

Forget the voice, I just hope they don't go too canon on the mainframe processor.

..............working....................................
