The computer voice on next Trek TV series - actor

Roddenberry.com tweeted today that Majel's voice was recorded phonetically before she passed, and that they've been working for years to get it functional for things like Siri -- and that they're currently seeing if they can get it to work for Discovery. So maybe we won't even need a new voice? ;)

As suggested by ChristopherPike in the last thread on this exact topic, I think Linda Park is the way to go on a computer voice.

pardon me for being dense, but this means that the computer won't be limited to actual lines that Majel had previously spoken on the shows, amirite?

Meaning, they can make the Discovery's computer say absolutely any line they wish, and have it sound like Majel?

Not sure how that would work, or (despite how much we all loved Majel) if it would be a good idea....

wow. I just saw this news.

My idea of using Majel to voice the computer via a phonetic spoken database from her thousands of hours of voice recordings would be amazing.
Mr. Laser Beam full details on my idea in November 2009 and how from earlier 1990s-2000s recordings here:

That does not compute :)

Now that we talk to our computers, it would be weird if they didn't. Not to mention logistically messy to relay info from the computer to the crew/audience.

I watched the new Star Trek Continues fan production ep7, and heard Sirtis's "audition" for the computer voice. As much as I liked her in TNG, I don't think she's right for the computer. You need someone who has very clear and punchy enunciation. She emphasizes her S's (like me), and is a little too slow in her delivery. Also, why must it be a woman's voice again? Regardless of sex, they should hire a talented voice actor this time IMHO.

I'd heard about that ages ago; I've been wondering why it hasn't come up before now. That would be so cool, both if it worked and if this is what finally leads to getting the thing functional for other uses.

We don't talk to our computers.

We talk to some of our computers for convenience under some circumstances.

I deal with computers professionally in several environments. I know no one who interacts with or operates their workplace equipment primarily (really, at all) by voice interface - certainly not in military situations.

It's nice for getting driving directions or querying Google. I would not trust it in a critical situation.

They managed just fine without it in Enterprise,
too. Who missed it?

I guess that's true because I never noticed Enterprise didn't use one.
Anyway in terms of tech, we're interacting to some degree in 2016. Add 250 years and I think it's safe to say we'll have multiple interfaces, including full verbal. It's also novel in 2016 where it was far-fetched in '66

Maurice LeMarche flipping between The Brain, Kif, Calculon, and Morbo depending on the situation at hand

MORBO: FIRING PUNY PHOTON TORPEDOS

CALCULON: Red Alert, Red Alert, Warp Core breach... IMMINENT!!

KIF:
Gagh? Ugggh, yes captain

THE BRAIN
: The same as every day, Number One. We're going to take over THE FEDERATION

In other words use it exactly how they used in TOS.
