The best main character in Voyager.

Hi everyone I thought I would post a new thread (and my first one!), had a look through, doesn't seem too many on this forum. I wanted to ask everyone who they believed to be the best main character in Voyager and why you think that.

Me personally the top one would have to be the Doctor. Simply because he was for me was one of the most interesting and unique characters who was complex and had some great character development (hologram or flesh and blood and his relationship with Seven etc). Two other characters I loved the most was Seven as she was very interesting as well and bought the show some life after Kes left and also Neelix, simply because I found him so likeable and funny, (though he was a bit annoying sometimes). Does anyone agree with me? Or do you think there were other characters that were better? Let me know. I look forward to hearing your opinions and discussing them. The best to all!

I always liked the Doctor and how he developed through the show. From just wanting to be able to switch himself off in Season 1, to 'Message In A Bottle' (one of my all-time favourite Trek episodes). That holo emitter was kind of a contrivance, but it did enable him to be a much more active character.

Also think Seven gave the show a lift, in terms of character dynamics. The Star Fleet versus Maquis thing had almost completely disappeared - possibly a bit TOO quickly but, overall, not a bad thing. With Seven challenging a lot of what the rest of the crew thought or did, that made things a lot more interesting.

Neelix? Never had the dislike of him that others have shown. Always liked having him around if only to drive Tuvok up the wall. Vulcans become rather stuffy if they get things all their own way, after all.

I think this will be my rating right now:

1. B'Elanna
2. The Doctor
3. Seven of Nine
4. Tom Paris
5. Tuvok
6. Janeway
7. Naomi Wildman
8. Chakotay
9. Harry Kim
10. Kes

11. Neelix

If I was going to put character that appear less often, I would put Lon Suder somewhere between the first few. I also liked the appearance of Seska in the last season, although I originally disliked her character.

I liked Seven amd the way she just took over the situation when a complex engineering problem in a scene had to be resolved. She always showed her stuff and never was afraid of anybody (except maybe Tuvok or Chakotay). Besides that she was beautiful and charming- who else would tell the Captain "and you will fail" (Prey).

There's a rate your favorite character thread on the first page.

My favorite is Seven of Nine followed by the Doctor and Kes.

Hi everyone just thought I would say thank you to those so far who have posted replies to my thread, It's been interesting reading some of the opinions, being a general agreement so far that B'Elanna, Seven and the Doctor are the best characters. I look forward to seeing more replies soon.

Hi You Will Fail thank you for posting your reply to my thread. I certainly couldn't agree more about Seven and the Doctor being the best characters. I'm quite intrigued by Kes being one of your fav characters though. I thought she was a decent enough addition to the show. And she did have some good stories, like helping the Doctor evolve, her relationship with Neelix and her friendship with Paris. Plus her mental abilities. But I never rated her as highly as the others and though I found her watchable. I never really took to her much. What is about her that you like that makes her one of your fav's?

Yeah I thought that was always a good aspect to Seven's character. Particularly when she first came on board she didn't care what anyone else thought of her particularly B'Elanna. That really annoyed her!:)

Yeah definitely in agreement with you there. Neelix certainly I think for other fans I know of Star Trek, don't seem to like him much. What I thought was interesting for me was that one of my friends, who doesn't think much of Voyager actually liked Neelix more than those who I know that love Voyager!:)

I certainly am with you Yellow Submarine about Chakotay, Harry Kim and Kes being the worst characters. They were just I think for me boring really, though I thought Kes and Chakotay were a bit better than Kim, he for me is hands down the worst character of the show. :)

Woot woot!

What is about her that you like that makes her one of your fav's?

I liked that Kes was a calming presence on the ship, she seemed to bring a sense of warmth to most of her scenes. After she left, it was all a bit colder/soulless and the warming, calm presence that Kes brought was lacking imo.
Besides that, I found Kes very attractive and her voice extremely shmexy. Not to mention I felt Kes was a real blank canvas character and the writers could have done anything with her, "Before and After" was a testament to the kind of interesting stories that could revolve around her.

Janeway, hands down. Loved her. If you look there is a thread called how is Janeway sexy, with all of the reasons (thousands because this is actually the second thread.)

Banana Torres has some great character development. She starts out as an obnoxious bitch and turns out to be pretty cool, strong and sensitive. I love her relationship with Tom, who goes through some evolving himself.
