Apparently, Shin is using Kanan's lightsaber? I'm seeing this mentioned in multiple places online.
I wondered about that, but while the hilt is a similar style with the raised almost fushi style guard, it's not quite identical and the details on the grip are noticeably different.
Not that's impossible. The last time we saw it, Pryce had it in her office when Thrawn returned to Lothal after Kanan's death. It's possible she sent it up to Thrawn and it was on board the Chimera when Ezra jumped them all away . . . but it seems more likely that it was still in her office when the complex was destroyed.
She may not be a Jedi, but she's a skilled Mandalorian who trained with Kanan and Ezra on how to use the Darksaber...so Ezra's lightsaber will work for her.
Yes and no. She's clearly meditating in that one shot, and during the course of 'Rebels' (basically from 'The Protector of Concord Dawn' onwards) there was a recurring thing about Sabine leaning more towards Jedi philosophy than Mandalorian.
Obviously she doesn't have the same kind of natural force sensitivity required to train as a Jedi Knight, but one doesn't need to be able to make rocks float to follow the Jedi code. The force is created by an is a part of all living things. Anyone can feel it if they can learn to quiet their mind, unlearn what they've learned and to be able to let go.
Indeed the whole point of the 'Trails of the Darksaber' episode wasn't to teach Sabine how to use a lightsaber, it was to help her find her inner balance. Even Ezra said the most important things he learned from Kanan was about life, and how to be a good person, to be selfless and compassionate. That's what is really at the core of what it means to be a Jedi, and it's exactly what the Order lost sight of and led to their fall.
It's been at the back of my mind for a while now, but I've been wondering if part of Filloni's long term plan might be for Sabine to become something of a new spiritual leader for Mandalorians. Using the precepts and philosophy of the Jedi Code and melding it with the martial traditions of The Creed to create a new movement. Not a band of mercenaries or would be warlords out for themselves, trying to recapture old glories and fantasies of domination, or an insular cult of zealots obsessing over rituals, only ever looking inwards. But warriors dedicated to the protection of those in need. To stand on the bridge and let no evil pass. Not for glory, or honour, or riches, but because that is the way.
So something kind of on a similar level to the Guardians of the Whills, combined with The Protectors of Concord Dawn. Or hell; the Aquillian Rangers from the second and (I think?) Third Draft of what would become ANH. They were basically heavily armed warriors allied with the Jedi who "serve the Force of Others". I think it would be interesting to re-introduce this concept.
I think we're already seeing glimpses of that with the rescue of Navarro, and I wonder if this is how it will dovetail with Sabine's story somewhere down the road. I mean the Mandalorians have tried pacifism and it didn't work for them. Their tried warmongering, and that was just as disastrous. Perhaps this is the more balanced path.
If nothing else it would certainly be a neat addition if we get to the NJO movie and Rey has a cadre of Mandalorian rangers as temple guards watching over her young padawans, even if it's just a background detail.
