The Admiral "F***ing" Clancy Appreciation Thread

Having just rewatched THE HUNGER last week or so, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she's the hot redhead who has sex with David Bowie in the first scene of that movie.

She's also the hot, pretty older woman who tries to seduce Jimmy Reardon (River Phoenix) in A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon and the PR lady who falls for the android in Making Mr. Right. And before that, she was a great comedian/singer with characters like a female heavy metal star who's the head of the band Vulcan Death Grip.

I do love tangents, but you're not wrong. :)

In fairness, I only happen to know because my niece is in first grade. ;)

As of last year, her favorite show was Daniel Tiger. So going from Daniel Tiger to Star Trek: Picard? Yeah. Not happening. "Hey! Want to watch something from the beginning of Episode 5?" No way.

That's interesting that she is known for playing edgy characters. Prior to PIC, the only time I ever saw her was in the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon, where she played a nurse who was working with the crew of Apollo 7. About as un-Clancy as possible.

When (and if) there's a Star Trek show for very young kids, you can have her watch it. ;)

It seems very self consciously written and shoe horned in, in part to inject grit into it to hook non-fan viewers.and to stoke huge off-show controversy over non-issues. I don't see that it added any real dramatic quality to the show per say. She's like a swearing wind up doll and an amplification of the tired old trope of the nasty admiral.

Weird. It sounded natural to me. Although Clancy's usage was a bit more aggressive that what I hear in a typical workday, we also don't have many serious disputes. "What the fuck's going on?" Is much more typical.

I've sworn in front of my boss at work before. Stress happens at my job and we don't bat an eye.

I think if they write Admiral Clancy pottymouth dialogue, it should be more casual sounding and less like emphasis. Like if Clancy were doing a defence allocation briefing of the core Federation worlds, she'd drop fuck in there 12 times and call the Tellarites 'those cunts' but no one would bat an eyelid because it's super casual.

What's wrong with hooking non-fan viewers? We should try to do that every chance we get.

STAR TREK is not just for us lifelong Trekkies, nor should it preach only to the converted.

Plus, it should be noted that a lot of us Trekkies like our Trek a bit grittier, as in TOS or DS9. Heck, ENTERPRISE was hyped as being setting in a rougher and grittier era than TNG, but, alas, fell short of the hype. These new shows are what I wanted ENT to be.

This strikes me as exactly backwards. Surely the whole point of the "sheer fucking hubris" line is that she is beibg deliberately uncivil to Picard.

The second time, she's just fucking with him.
