I don’t find the way Star Trek Picard uses swear words to be unnatural. What I find forced is when Joe Pesci says “fuck” every 5 words in a Mafia movie. That’s a lot more gratuitous than it’s use in Picard.
I've sworn in front of my boss at work before. Stress happens at my job and we don't bat an eye.
I'm not do certain she was right on the first occasion, but definitely on the second. That first one could go either way imo. She's been my favourite addition to the Trek canon from this series, by far.
And she was absolutely right, both times, to tell Picard what she did. He always was an arrogant s.o.b, so it's nice to see an Admiral call him on it at long last.
I mean, even ten years ago I might have been offended. But, then I worked shipping, with former military and in the health care industry. In my experience, this is very much a regional thing. As somebody who spent much of my adult life in New York, it often comes as a shock to realize that there are still parts of the country where saying "fuck" is a big deal and not just casual punctuation. And as for whether it's "professional" . . . I'm guessing that also depends on the profession. What's inappropriate for a Sunday school teacher may be perfectly normal for a dissolute sci-fi writer.
Clearly, Clancy comes from the 24th century equivalent of Brooklyn . . . or maybe the East Village.![]()

Clancy was formerly the Captain of the USS Swearatoga. Which was constructed at Fuck Utopia Planitia Shipyards.
Oh my. I don't really talk like this in normal life...
Almost all of the cursing seems forced.
IMO, officers On Duty should not be swearing.
When is Jean Luc going to drop the f-bomb?
Are you kidding? I wanna see it!
Hopefully in the fucking finale!I liked her a lot more this time round.
When is Jean Luc going to drop the f-bomb?
Clancy: Jean Luc on behalf of Starfleet we would like to apologize and offer you a new command.I think saying it to Clancy in the season finale would be the perfect payoff for her two conspicuous uses.
