Although I also think the reason Nechayev never threw a F-bomb at Picard was because TNG was a syndicated series aired on free TV with a PG rating...

Technically, it's not free. The commercials one looks at are paid for by sponsors, who then jack up the unit cost everyone buys. Even if they don't watch the show. The sponsors might pay for a group of programs or for the network in general, or the program in question as well. Depends on the model they use. But it's not free for viewers.

I don't think it's too much cursing, but I do think it's a deliberate move to show that nu-nuTrek isn't your Daddy's Star Trek or even your Gen-X brother's JJTrek. Whatever, YMMV.

It would be one thing if the swearing was organic (like when Agnes dropped the f-bomb, that was fine), but Clancy's actress is just making some strange-ass diction choices. And from an In-universe standpoint, I just can't buy that a high-ranking admiral is going to be cussing out a civilian like that. All in all, it's just .

But people here really seem to get a kick out of it, so hey, whatever.

Yeah, in a way it was rather like the Klingons in Trials and Tribble-ations. I think most people took that one as some meta humour until Enterprise went and took it a step too far.

I kind of still blame those episodes of Enterprise for much of the visual continuity backlash Disco has been getting.
