Spoilers The Acolyte

What is classified as "the Old Republic" changes over time. What was just the Galactic Republic in the prequels, become the Old Republic by the time of Yavin. To the point when the Empire is defeated, it is replaced by the New Republic. However someone living during the Clone Wars would call the Republic as it was before the last major galactic conflict with the Sith a thousand years prior the Old Republic. It probably still called itself the Galactic Republic even before the days of Darth Bane. Assuming of course it could be considered 'galactic' at that time. Rather than just "The Republic" because it was the only major republic, but was not so galaxy spanning as its later incarnations.

I tend to think the pre-Darth Bane "Old Republic" was indeed just called "The Republic", if for no other reason than to reference the prologue from the old ANH novelization (which likely came more or less verbatim from Lucas.)
ANOTHER galaxy, another time.
"The Old Republic was the Republic of legend, greater than distance or time. No need to note where it was or whence it came, only to know that … it was the Republic.
Once, under the wise rule of the Senate and the protection of the Jedi Knights, the Republic throve and grew. But as often happens when wealth and power pass beyond the admirable and attain the awesome, then appear those evil ones who have greed to match.
So it was with the Republic at its height. Like the greatest of trees, able to withstand any external attack, the Republic rotted from within though the danger was not visible from outside.
Aided and abetted by restless, power-hungry individuals within the government, and the massive organs of commerce, the ambitious Senator Palpatine caused himself to be elected President of the Republic. He promised to reunite the disaffected among the people and to restore the remembered glory of the Republic.
Once secure in office he declared himself Emperor, shutting himself away from the populace. Soon he was controlled by the very assistants and boot-lickers he had appointed to high office, and the cries of the people for justice did not reach his ears.
Having exterminated through treachery and deception the Jedi Knights, guardians of justice in the galaxy, the Imperial governors and bureaucrats prepared to institute a reign of terror among the disheartened worlds of the galaxy. Many used the Imperial forces and the name of the increasingly isolated Emperor to further their own personal ambitions.
But a small number of systems rebelled at these new outrages. Declaring themselves opposed to the New Order they began the great battle to restore the Old Republic.
From the beginning they were vastly outnumbered by the systems held in thrall by the Emperor. In those first dark days it seemed certain the bright flame of resistance would be extinguished before it could cast the light of new truth across a galaxy of oppressed and beaten peoples …"

It also helps to objectively distinguish the three if need be: The Republic > The Galactic Republic > The New Republic.
It does raise the question of how would people during the time of the OT & ST refer to "The Republic"? The Old Old Republic? The Ancient Republic?

I'm curious what they're the new government they're going to set up after the fall of the First and Final Order. Is it just going to be a continuation of The New Republic or something else?

I was looking through the StarWars.com article about last night's announcements, and I noticed it say High Republic, not Old Republic. This makes me wonder if it might be close to the same time as the High Republic books and comics.

You're wondering if a show set in the High Republic takes place during the High Republic??

I posted that before I saw the story referring to it being set during the High Republic era.

Whenever they get around to post tRoS stories, I suspect it'll just be the New Republic still. The entire ST takes place over the course of about one year, and the First Order never actually took control in the way the Empire did, just held a few strategic systems like Corellia and mostly just threw it's weight around a lot. There's not the same discontinuity of civilization that occurred in the 20 odd years of Imperial rule. It's more akin to a foreign occupation in that the aftermath is about rebuilding what's lost.
For the New Republic that mostly means having the member worlds appoint new senators, electing a new Chancellor and selecting a new capital. I suspect as the leaders of the Resistance, Poe and Finn will end up facilitating most of that coordination.

The real question is what to do with those worlds that openly supported the First Order...

Nope, he's to young, according to Wookiepedia he was born around 84 years before A New Hope. One theory I read early today is that's it's focused on Plagueis.

Palpatine is a body hopping Vampire.

All the Sith there ever were are Palpatine.

Or, of all the millions of Sith from history, 9 of those millions were unique personalities, who were assimilating their apprentices every 30 to 40 years or so.

This is Star Wars now.

Sad.

I just write that nonsense off as Palps being high as a kite and just randomly babbling about dyads and legacies. Trying to force any kind of logic onto tRoS's script is an exercise in futility.

This show sounds like a spoiler for the High Republic series. :)
Given the pace the publishing side are going at, I won't be surprised if they'll have caught up to the movie by the time it's out. Indeed, that's probably the whole idea.

Fantastic news. I loved them in both The Hunger Games and The Hate U Give. Before, I was completely apathetic towards this show, but between Stenberg's casting and with Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland showrunning, I'm all in.

Help an unenlightened guy who is doing their best, I see on Instagram pronouns are listed as she/they, does that mean they're comfortable with both?
Yup, that's what that means. Since they're non-binary, I'm inclined to use they/them.

I’m reading Shadow of the Sith currently and I’m wondering if the lead of this new show is going to be Darth Noctyss. If so then this could be the Sith Lord that trains Plagueius.
