TBBS and treatment of women

Really? Cuz I'd definitely do Brad Pitt

You jezebel.

Rincewiend once had an animated avatar of a lady's chests (so's not to offend YR) bouncing up and down, so his present one is completely anodyne. I think the board biscuit goes to TGT (who else) who had an animated avatar of another lady boucing up and down.

OK, let's not argue over what words are offensive or what a poster did or didn't mean.

Basically, I recommend two things and we can move on from here:

- Mod notify if something offends you.

- Try to be mindful of others. Everyone has differing degrees of acceptance and we'll never make everybody happy, but at least pretend that you're posting to someone for whom you have respect.

Try not to fight in the rest of the thread. ;)

I've heard, "you stupid tit," used by the British (no, I don't mean "twit," but it must mean the same thing).

Well yes it can be used as an insult, but you can use 'penis' in the same sentence to mean the same thing, and that neither makes the word 'penis' insulting or makes the sentence sexist.

I'm not going to take 30 minutes to Google it, but my guess was the word "tit" in the context of, "You stupid tit," has a meaning not at all associated with breasts. I could be wrong. If I was right, my point was it doesn't take long for the usage of the word to devolve the thread into sexist posts like, "Knockers," "Ta tas," "Rack," a picture of a big-breasted womean, a gif of bouncy breasts, mentions of anything more than a mouthful is a waste, and .

Calling someone a dickhead on here doesn't have eight follow-up posts with different slang words for penis.

This is really the main thing I wanted to get across, so thanks for reiterating it.

^^so the intent and context are insulting opposed to the actual word?

some of the offense comes from the user and the intended recipient - context I guess.

Somebody said the magic C-word: context! :) I tend to say things like, "So and so does nothing but moan and bitch all day." Do I mean that in a sexist demeaning way? No. Even if I said, "That bitch cut me off!" it has more to do with the other person's rude behavior and character rather than how I feel about women in general.

Oh, Daniel Radcliffe is not a kid anymore. He's a hunky man.

Sorry, but it is hard to take this seriously considering your avatar.

You should change it to something that doesn't contribute to the problems you are pointing out.

... if you do want to be taken seriously.:wtf:

Am i missing something here? What is wrong with her avatar? Its a picture of an animated character.
For someone to have a racy avatar while bemoaning the fact that women are always being judged by But is she hot?, I find that to be odd and out of place.

Of course, maybe she doesn't fully believe her own argument, but then it would have been better in such a case to maybe not over play the But is she hot? line in that part of her post.

It's a woman with a cat on her chest, and not even the least bit of nudity or titillation to it. I don't get the big deal.

Not exactly a Maxim cover.

T'Bonz's avatar is racier than that... but I don't think she was saying that every little thing having to do with women is qualified by But is she hot?

I have nothing against that avatar... it is quite nice. But it is a pose highlighting a woman's chest by someone worried that everyone is judging women by But is she hot?

Either these arguments are going over the top, or they're sending out mixed signals. I think the whole thing is over blown on both sides... and it would be nice if people dialed back their arguments to realistic levels (that they themselves would actually like to see).

This shouldn't be a thread to see who can be the most extreme in their posts... but it is sure looking that way from the peanut gallery. :wtf:

Please, turn down the heat in here guys. :(

And for you guys who may be missing the context of my original statement, this was what I quoted...
Capable sportswoman. But is she hot? Actor in a sci-fi show. But is she hot? Upstanding politician on your side. But is she hot? Batshit politician on the other side. But is she hot? Defendent in a murder trial. But is she hot? Leader of a bizarre cult devoted to lobster-worship. But is she hot?

Wow. What a thread!

It's taking every bit of restraint I have not to launch into a four paragraph orgy of bad jokes and sexual innuendos (hey, there's one!). I am not very sensitive (or sympathetic) when it comes to people reading words they don't like, or hearing words they don't like. It seems like you give the speaker a lot of power over your emotional state.

Don't go out of your way to offend people, and don't go out of your way to find offense. Don't assume you know everyone's intent, especially on the internet. Don't assume that how you interpret meaning is the same as everyone else.

Or as Bill and Ted said: Be Excellent to Each Other.

This sums up my thoughts pretty effectively, actually. Well done, Capricorn.

While we're at it; this is a global board so I find it offensive that anyone who isn't American is treated like a second class citizen.

this. x1000

i particularly hate the rule that you can't post images that 'you would find in a magazine you need ID for' (which was to ban topless/sideboob/cleavage images) when in the UK you can EASILY buy newspapers with bare boobs on page 3 WITH NO ID. and that's without even getting into the likes of Loaded, Front, Zoo or Nuts which do NOT have an age restriction on them and contain plenty of near naked or naked women.

it's an ethnocentrically worded rule.

and i don't believe any woman who says bare male torsos are OK and bare female torsos aren't merely because men have no jubblies. i've read plenty of posts on here by women dribbling over a man's chest. so that is just ludicrous.

Not entirely sure you've embraced the ethos of this thread. Absolutely sure you haven't got within a planet's reach of mine.
