Swearing in Star Trek - Steve Shives

Ah, yes.

Fond memories of Catholic School…
"Fond" isn't quite the word I'd use...

Some years back, the hubby and I went to see a legendary local theater production where an actor plays a nun and it's very audience participation. He was *deeply* amused by how I reverted to Terrified Schoolgirl when "Sister" called on me.

This may seem unrealistic, but I would suggest writing scripts without swearing. That may make it harder to write the script, but make the show cleaner.

I agree with you in a way but for different reasons.

I think a fair approach would be to 1st draft it clean and on 2nd and 3rd draft review key dialogue for whether an expletive feels right and feels necessary.

So rather than cleaning up dialogue which, because it is your baby you are protective of, it is adding colour and emphasis where appropriate

... and the guys write scenes they think are wrong? just to make them right later?

Not as such- it's something I learned when I used to do stand up back in the day. Some of the best comedians I knew were adamant that a joke should stand on its own two feet without swearing and you only add it if it makes a difference to presentation. Same things stands that the dialogue should work without it but adding may make it more impactful
