that's exactly the problem - real sex (not the kind that is presented) is everywhere (just the way people look at each other) - puritanism wants to lock up sex: in the dark - in a bedroom - under a cover ... and definately no fun (just to fiil the earth with people)
just look how hollywood (mostly) depicts sex: under a blanket and when they are done everybody wears underwear - have you ever had sex like that? i don't (and i do have three daughters)
... btw, i don't like unnecessary sex scenes (even more than bad ones)

No where did I say "lock up sex." Assumptions are not helpful.
you think it has no place in a show for grown-ups - where has it gone? if it's not locked up where is it?

There were several episodes of SG-1 where they solved problems without violence, But some problems can only be solved with violence, life or death situations.
It belongs in conversations not poorly portrayed on screens. I stated simply it is not additive in any show I have seen in the past twenty years. Accusations of puritanism not helpful either.
pg14 (or somesuch) for a show where shooting them up is mostly the first choice (mckay's rants i mentioned are sga)

it is poorly portrayed because puritanism made america uncomfortable with sex (besides having it that is - while shooting up people is okay)
Then why is the porn industry so successful?
People aren't uncomfortable with sex, it just doesn't belong in TV/Movies when it adds nothing to the story. It's unnecessary.
not language - maybe losing a worldwar (self started) makes one a bit more sensible to wholesale bloodshed (not necessarily gore) on tv
As I said above, sometimes violence is the only answer to other violence.

good question - the us have the biggest porn industry, have the most illegal whores and are the most sexually repressive country in the so called western world (just say no, anyone?) - maybe puritanism has got sth to do with it? i'm rather sure americans are as horny as everyone else
but those 'conversations' are not to be had on your tv set

european shows usually adress sex (i don't fully understand what you are trying to say here)
do you believe in a story where normal - let's call it - protosexual behaviour is cut out? it's what we do 24/7
