In a classroom (I certainly require it of my students) but would you ask at a pub? This whole place is far more like the latter than the former.

But this isn't a pub. It's a discussion forum where the very purpose is the exchange of information, preferably accurate and reliable information.

Internet access is easy. I actually do ask people to support their arguments at a bar/pub. This is usually worded as, "Show me where the fuck you know that?" and sometimes ends in nasty words and threats shouted in my direction.

Here's a trick for you:

Take the text in that quote box, paste it into Google and get this:

Also, you can just check out the news on Deadline, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and a number of other industry sites
If I were you, I would never post box office figures like that in this thread. This thread is full of people who don't want to discuss box office figures.

Yes, it actually does make a difference. Not caring about the source of information and blindly believing whatever is told to you is what allows misinformation to thrive.

But this isn't the place for that argument. All I ever ask of anyone is to provide a link (as anyone who knows me here can attest to). It's really not that hard. You already have it hardly as you read it, just copy and paste it at the same time.
Even though you're right about most things, sometimes you push people too hard. There's no point in attacking people here for information you could have learned with a quick search on the internet.

Maybe it’s because I’m a geezer who started going to pubs long before the internet was around, combined with the fact that making people “source their arguments” is literally a major component of my job, but I’ve never viewed casual conversation as requiring footnotes (too much like working—I don’t go to the pub to work). And TrekBBS, at least to me, is pretty casual. Ah well.

There is no attacking. Just requesting. If it comes off as attacking, then I apologize. All I ever want is clarity of information. Is that so much to ask for?
