Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

Christ, Forbin, if you were invested enough to say "why didn't she do X?" then at least be prepared to hear suggestions why she might not have. It's not personal, mate. We're all a bunch of geeks here, fanwanking about stuff like this is hardly a new concept.

Besides, someone else brought up the "why no heat vision?" point again a few posts back, so I wasn't just dragging it up again.

Supergirl (and Superman) push against THEIR mass in situations as this.

That would just cancel out and do nothing. I tend to figure that they're somehow interacting with the Earth's gravitational or EM field to maneuver, like magnetic levitation. Whatever propulsion they use is clearly reactionless. Otherwise, if Supergirl flew over the heads of a crowd on the sidewalk, she'd knock them all over with the downward force she was using the levitate, as if they were standing under a helicopter.

The power of flight for Kryptonians comes from an ability for them to defy gravity. This was stated in the original Donner Superman and you notice in the DCEU films that objects near Superman and Zod levitate prior to them taking off. This effect is extended to anything a K is touching as well. As long as they are holding it while flying, the pull of Earth's gravity is negated. This is how Superman and others can lift buildings, ships, and perform other feats of Herculean might, without the structures of said objects collapsing, fracturing or breaking.

There are, of course, many different Superman continuities with different explanations for his powers. In the original comics and radio episodes, and in the first couple of theatrical cartoons, he was just jumping really hard, like the Hulk -- although he could only jump 1/8 mile at a time. I'm sure there have been various explanations in different eras of the comics.

Which is probably cribbed from The Matrix, which in turn got it from anime.

Most go with the defy gravity explanation. Like I said above, it's the plausible explanation for how Superman can do all the Herculean tasks he performs, and the objects he holds don't fall apart and collapse under their own weight.

"DEFYING GRAVITY" - The song from Wicked. Haha

The other explanation used is to give a Herculean strong character telekinesis, as a way to explain their impossible feats. Like Gladiator at Marvel, when he lifted the Baxter Building and fought the FF. Reed discerned that while Gladiator is superhuman, all his abilities were enhanced by his powerful telekinetic mind. Since everything he was appearing to do while he fought the FF broke the laws of physics.

Or the Matrix Supergirl and clone Superboy from the 90s, who both used telekinesis to simulate many of Superman's powers.

Really, regardless of how Kryptonians' power of flight works, it should be functionally equivalent to telekinesis and usable in the same way. After all, if they can use it to "push" themselves up and around against gravity, then they should be able to direct it horizontally as well as vertically and push objects away or draw them closer.

At first, I was really against the musical crossover idea with Flash and Supergirl but watching this behind the scenes video, I think it might be a lot of fun:

And Melissa Benoist looks amazing in her 1920's era make up and dress. WOW!

If they were to get rid of James...since he's such a major figure in the Superman mythos, I suspect they'd just have him move back to Metropolis rather than kill him.
I guess you didn't see either cut of Batman v Superman? Jimmy is a CIA operative killed early on right before the KGBeast and his henchmen massacre the African villagers.

^ Eh, I forgot about that, and so what? Supergirl clearly isn't emulating the tone or style of those films.

I liked the alien deportation plot that parallels immigration issues in the U.S. The only difference is that a sinister covert organization (Cadmus) was doing the deportation, and it was not sanctioned by the government.

The episode was a full house, even Lena, Lillian, and Jeremiah - and James - figured into the story (with Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo making last-minute appearances); the only guest star who could have made this even better is Helen Slater (or Calista Flockhart - and this would have been epic). ;)
I want to see a scene in which Dean Cain, Kevin Sorbo, Teri Hatcher, Lynda Carter and Helen Slater are all on screen together :techman:.

Sorry I was just pointing out that there was a precedent for doing just that. Mind you they've also killed off (Dinah) Laurel Lance aka Black Canary on Arrow so maybe no one is sacred.

It's easier to kill off a "major character" when they're in one scene and not even identified by name. Coulda been anybody.

Point taken though he is identified in the ultimate edition. As for the Earth-38 Jimmy, I've been conscious of his absence from the show of late, could it have something to do with the show relocating to Vancouver from LA?

Probably not, it's more a case of having a large cast and every character having their own subplots this season. And while everyone has a subplot, that meant that others had periods of less stuff to do, it just wasn't as noticeable with J'onn or Winn because they still show up on screen at the DEO with a line or two.

Has episode 16 aired in the U.S yet or is it on another break ? just checked SKY listings for this coming week no episode 16 here either ?.
