The list of popular things I'm not a fan of despite success is quite long.
Fair enough. I am not a fan of any post-Voyager Trek save for season 3 of Picard, despite much of it being rather highly regarded and successful.
It seems like professional critics kurtzman trek much higher ratings than fans in places like rotten tomatoes. Im not sure why that is. It was the same issue with the sequel star wars movies.
Possibly because fans value different things than critics.
But what things? Professional critics seem to like so much that fans don't and hate what fans like. Its strange.
Not really. Take an art study class and exam the various functions within art. Rule of 3rds, use of color, framing, story set up and pay off, among others, all stand out differently to critics. It's not that strange. It merely is a difference of how they engage with the art.
It's funny, I admit fully that Season 3 was amazing for me, yet I admit it was full memberberries and throwbacks and what not. But for me that was part of its charme. Seeing the old gang again, the D, some amazing ship stuff and battles. The resurrection of Data, in a way I felt was really touching.
Yes, the story was weak, but I watch shows and movies for different reasons. Sometimes I like deep stories, sometimes I like fluff. Sometimes I like silly humor, sometimes I like emotional stuff. So yeah, depending on my mood Season 3 gives me exactly what I want.
And, even though some of Worf's more humorous lines were cringe, the fact that Dorn delivered them so seriously was amazing.

I'm not sure why that's important. You're not one of these people that thinks Star Trek must continue forever, as some sort of religious tent pole, are you? There are those types out there. I mean, you're a prime example of how the supposed fanbase is fractured all the way to its core.
As Shatner said back in 1986, it's just a TV show. Yet people feel the need to rail on about what is real, what is not, what is canon, what is not. Alternate timelines. Whatever.
Just enjoy what you like and stop watching the rest if you hate it. It's pretty simple.

That doesn’t make any of those things good.
Look, as I’ve been saying, if you like it, fine. But I think a lot of us agree on the whole thing: the plot was weak, the memberries were strong, and there were a lot of fun moments. But we have different takes on if it sat well with us personally. At the end of the day, that should be what matters. I don’t care if Avatar made billions of dollars at the box office. To me it was a very pretty movie with little to no real depth to it. My opinion is what matters to me.
Star Trek TOS was a sleeper hit that became popular in re-runs. If you'd been around during the original airing, with the incomplete stats we have now, would you even be a fan?
What's funny is, I remember one discussion where I did bring up the fact Picard S3 did many of the same things the previous two seasons plus all of Disco have been criticized for but gets a pass by the fans, and the first response I got was "you ever think we just like watching Riker and Worf more than we do Raffi or Stamets?" Which sounded to me like even the season's supporters were admitting nostalgia was the only thing that season had going for it.

To be fair, I’d rather watch Kirk and Spock (the characters, not necessarily the specific actors) than any others.
However, I don’t refuse to watch, or automatically assume, Trek without those characters is not worth my time. If I did, I certainly wouldn’t continue to watch it just to complain (too many other things to do, frankly).
If fanwank wasn’t the entirety of the CBS Trek experience, Picard season three might have hit differently.
But when that is the thrust of everything it gets old quickly.
For me, I don’t want past stories “fixed”. I want actual new stories with new thoughts driving them.
