Strange New Worlds Season 1 now on Youtube for FREE!

Except that commercials these days suck. I've been watching some 80s and 90s commercial compilation videos on youtube. They knew how to make interesting and fun ads back then. These days, it's all insurance company drug company ads or law firm ads. Boring. I don't need to see more people bopping around happily because they lowered their A1C with Rybelsus, or stupid Doug and his Emu for Liberty Insurance.
I don't pay attention to them. They become a background noise, not entertainment. So I treat them the same as I did the past ones. I didn't watch them then; I don't watch them now. Nonissue.

The experience may be different for other viewers depending upon what "cookies" are wedged into their machines, but for me, the ads so far have been clustered during the first 20 minutes of play. And while random and frequent, often interrupting a character mid sentence, the ads have been short and singular, usually just 15 seconds before returning to the episode, a far, far cry from cable TV ads that seem to run 5 to 8 minutes straight. If this is the "cost" of an otherwise legally free viewing, meh, I can live with it.

Binged this over the past few days and even as a cranky TOS/TNG purist I've got to say it was pretty solid. The pilot and Memento Mori were both pretty terrific. 8 and 9 were the only duds to me because they both felt really derivative (of the old holodeck malfunction episodes and Alien, respectively). Definitely want to watch Quality of Mercy again, feels like one that would improve when I know what is going on.

Like the cast too, particular Pike and Chapel. Peck is growing on me as Spock. Unlike some of you I really liked the Kirk casting, he had the easygoing confidence of young Shatner without coming off like a fratboy (coughChrispinecough)

I do with every single character didn't have to have PTSD or that everyone in the ST universe wasn't somehow related to each other like it's Utah but I guess that's just TV these days. Definitely want to watch the rest of the show at this point. It just felt a lot more like classic Star Trek largely due to the episodic structure with a new adventure on a new planet each week.

I've been watching it a lot lately, some episodes more than once. Being able to watch Star Trek on my TV without resorting to reruns I taped on VHS back when the year started with "19" is kind of like a superpower.

This post demonstrates part of the reason Paramount plus went this route with youtube. Always nice to hear this type of feedback from people not otherwise inclined to subscribe just for this show. Even from those with a Trekkie background. Glad to hear your overall liking the series.
