Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Isn't there one of the Discovery Klingons in one of the crowd scenes on planet though? Pretty sure I saw one off in the background. Which is cool because, you know, lots of different physical types makes the universe an interesting place, right? Also. I liked the look of the Disco Klingons.

There are a lot of different aliens on the planet. It may have been one that looked a little like them.

Inverse article said:
Goldsman chimes in on this point and makes it clear we won’t be seeing the monster Discovery Klingons anytime soon. “Henry is very polite. I worked on Discovery and I’ll just say, it’s nice to have those Klingons in the rearview mirror.”

I'm disappointed in Goldsman. Even if he didn't like the Discovery Klingons, there's no need to be so disrespectful to his colleagues in public like that.

Pelia lived as alien on Earth.
Guinan lived as alien on Earth.
For the sake of entertainment/drama, they must have met.

There's nothing disrespectful in it at all. You could read the article.

I read the full article. Goldsman's quote is still disrespectful. It shows no consideration for different subjective tastes, it doesn't acknowledge valid creative reasons for wanting a change in makeup design, and it doesn't acknowledge how hard everyone worked to make that makeup design functional onscreen. It just disses the old design without balancing that with anything positive.

A more respectful way of framing it would have been, "I worked on Discovery, and I really appreciated how hard everyone worked to make the Klingons a frightening alien race for the war arc. But we're doing a different story now, and we're excited to bring this new design to the history of Klingon looks."

I am getting the impression that Carol Kane's alien species is suppose to be what explains Mr Flint's long lifespan in "Requiem for Methuselah." They might even go all meta and say she once went by the name of Carol Kane on earth. Could it be she is Spock's grandma or great grandma. This would explain how she knows Spock's mom.

Or they've never met and Flint is just a guy who lived a long time.
Why would she need to be Spock's grandmother to meet Amanda Grayson?
