Considering they cast a 39yo to play a 26yo, I'm guessing this is in fact TOS era Kirk from around 2269, and he comes back in time to Pike's era or something.

That's what I figure. I mean is that even the Enterprise bridge he's sitting in?
The consoles have tan or brown edges. Those aren't the Enterprise bridge colors in either Strange New Worlds or TOS.
It's the only way they can make this work, because we know Kirk and Pike don't meet until Kirk takes over command of the Enterprise
So its likely he's in command of a different ship.
i will say this, i'm interested to see how Wesley's Kirk and Peck's Spock interact if at all.
