Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I do like the blinky indicator light readout screen next to the sliding controls, similar to how the TOS transporter console was designed. Needs more color to the display but that's a definite plus.

Well I imagine it's turned off between scenes, there's a round screen to the left that isn't lit up, that could add to it.

And it should appear to function at some level. The green does not
How?

The round screen is probably the astrogator-like round screen from the TOS transporter console, just moved to the left. They're keeping elements from the TOS console and just rearranging them in location.

I got this for you guys. Happy? Interesting thing, the computer stations have panels on both sides. Meaning facing the pad and your back to it. The rooms on the sides go around the pad. Its unexpected and cool like that weird back wall on the bridge with space behind it.

This is the view with your back to the pad.

I had to crop the left but you can see the panel (with tape) and the sliders on the right.

THANK YOU! These look amazing. The last one with the red take on the console screams TOS. Amazingly faithful updates. I'm so excited for this series!

That is a lot of :censored:ing green.

Hey, it's not easy being green.

The only Star Trek I've ever seen that looked "Functional" was this one. And thats because it wasn't a set.

Yep.

Go take a warm bath to calm your nerves and watch the original show with the cardboard sets and be happy :)

The original plywood sets had way too much color to be "functional." Including green.

It looks like an aquarium. Honestly. It lacks that technical feel of something both functional and dangerous. The pads look great. The green panels make it look very strange, like a fish bowl, or a carnival funhouse mirror.
Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. The green panels look like they serve a function to me. They all face inwards towards the pad, and have etchings on them that could be circuitry. I bet you wouldn't want to touch them while the transporter is running.

So, I'm confused... How does gray = functional but green ≠ functional? That seems excruciatingly superficial, even for you...
Note below and I will attempt to clarify my extreme superficial nature:

I should note it isn't just the green, and no gray does note equal more functional. The appearance is not one of a technology but of a pane of glass found in an aquarium. That's my initial reaction. No doubt it will work better in the show in action. But, I'll not sugarcoat my opinions because this how a Trek show "should" look. :sigh:

I wouldn't want to touch them because they look like they will break.

I imagine pastel colors instead of grey and dark brown would be better on humans working on spaceships for extended periods of time.

I mean, I work in a beige office so I can agree on that. And I have no problem with the orange or other colors. As I have endeavored to explain (apparently unsuccessfully) the green panels do not look functional to me on the transporter. That is all. The color is fine. My wife has jewelry of that color. Looks good on her.

I'll rephrase. Believable. I believed the TOS sets would work as described. The green doesn't sell that thus far.

Yes, I am excruciating pedantic right now since my initial reaction was not butterflies and rainbows of this new set.

Good grief, y'all.

The pad itself seems to be the same size as the Discovery's.

Great. Go watch enterprise. You know the show that was supposed to look like real "functional" NASA in the future but just ended up looking really boring.
Why are you so confrontational? Let him have his opinion. Agree to disagree and move on

Future space age material. Probably transparent aluminum or something.
Just because something looks fragile to us, doesn't mean it is in the context of the universe.
And again, watching it be used on screen will probably make a huuuggeeeee difference in my reaction. I am currently reacting to static shots and then being told that I am not reacting appropriately. That's a little tough to swallow.

Intriguing. Perhaps you might be interested in studies on color psychology and the calming effects of the color green, at least on humans. Perhaps there is a method to their madness, calming the users' nerves before being demolecularlized, being a mostly human crew?

Remember that TOS' season 3 painted the walls in the transporter room purple, as opposed to their usual practice of lighting gray-painted neutral walls with colored gels. Is purple more functional than green, or even gray, I wonder? Perhaps less aquatic, yes, but I have seen many aquariums with purple-magenta tank stones.

So many incongruent rabbit holes to go down with this one...

I like most of this except I think the steps should be solid black or light brownish like you also see in the mix. Don't see the need for glowy steps.
