Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

But its a centralized computer system. It seems like you can basically gather all the information you need from the same computer terminals. Also lots of stuff being maintained is no doubt better accessed in places like main engineering. I do like the idea of each bridge officer having like a headset in which they stay in touch with lower deck personal. If the security officer is seeing a glitch in the phasers he just call down to engineering to run a test on the system and if it's a problem then alert the captain.

Until DSC most bridges were kind of small, VOY being a standout exception. Trek designers clearly wanted to limit their sizes for varying reasons.

But a centralized system doesn't mean that officers from each department would not be on the bridge. I do not think if it is a centralized system that means that accessing it on the bridge by an engineering officer should be as easy as being in engineering. A department officer on the bridge can monitor all of it and relay it to the captain as needed.

More tall than wide, but yeah, the Cardassian top-down design allowed them to play around with space like they couldn't with most Federation starship bridges.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Utilizing New Mexico Locations for Visual Effects

SANTA FE, N.M. – The New Mexico Film Office announces the television series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, produced by CBS Studios, is utilizing New Mexico landscapes for the show’s visual effects (VFX).

“We are thrilled that New Mexico landscapes are being utilized for VFX in the television series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. New Mexico has so much to offer productions and we continue to build up the state’s resources as a well-established ecosystem that can support projects in all stages,” Amber Dodson, Director, New Mexico Film Office, said.

This could be fun. Maybe background shots for that Mandalorian VR wall thing or something?

Get 'em out in the desert southwest, where all the real good outer space stuff was made.

Personally. This is my fave. Just because it looks different and those dishes on the wall really look like they are going to scatter your particles.

It's not comforting that they're all redshirts....

Yeah, because it’s impossible to care “like the fans” when there isn’t a monolithic way fans care. There are as many ways “the fans” care as there are individual fans.

Quoted for truth. Growing up my parents and siblings were all fans of TOS, and then fans of TNG, DS9, VOY and Enterprise, ect, ect. And not a single one of the six of us love the same aspect of what makes Trek Trek. And that's one household. About the only thing we all agreed on, is none of us were fond of the animated series, when it came out. None of us have the same favorite episode, same favorite character, same favorite film, ect. And each has different things that bother them about every single iteration of Trek (well some of us do generally agree about some serious stupid scenes in the various life of Trek).

On a side note, try to spot how many times they reused those dishes for various things on Discovery in season 1 and 2 :D

I like this one a lot. It has vibes of the abandoned Star Trek Phase II aesthetic.

One thing I do like about the vertical transporter resonator dishes is that it feels like the next step in transporter technology after ENT. Starfleet wanted to make transporters a lot bigger than the ones used aboard NX-class starships of the 2150s and 2160s but to do that required amplifying the transporter beam using concave dishes and that necessitated a much larger semicircular platform. If you wanted to beam an entire landing party you needed to ramp up the energy usage.

I got this for you guys. Happy? Interesting thing, the computer stations have panels on both sides. Meaning facing the pad and your back to it. The rooms on the sides go around the pad. Its unexpected and cool like that weird back wall on the bridge with space behind...

Looks decent enough. Have to wait and see it all in motion.

It's a functional machine not a carnival ride.

:guffaw:

What, with that magical turbolift CG that makes absolutely no fucking spatial or design sense whatever?

"A carnival ride" is exactly what STD design is about too often. Little on the show resembles functional machinery. Why does everyone on the bridge appear to work fifteen to twenty feet from everyone else? What are those oversized columns of white LEDs that tower something like thirty feet into the air on the bridge for, hmmm? They're not environmental lighting. You can make shit up like "inertial dampening emitters" or something, but that's bullshit. They are there to Look Cool And To Hell With Function.

I love all of this color. This is the Enterprise, after all.

So...this is just about perfect. Love the three sliders on the control console.

No its actually a TV show that's trying to have a modernised look and feel as the original shows weird colour pallet and set. And the designers are doing an amazing job. If the designers in the 60's had these materials and budget you can bet they would have done the same.

Exactly so.

And it should appear to function at some level. The green does not. Telling me it is a TV show is helpful but irrelevant since a TV show is meant to entertain and this set is currently distracting.
