Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

And since the last Star Trek Enterprise was not exactly a resounding success, why on earth would anyone want to get their new flagship series confused with that?
I presume they will simply not address there was a previous show with that title. There will be more brand licensing agents interested in a show called "Star Trek: Enterprise" than "Star Trek: Pike", even if they're exactly the same product.

Nickelodeon (who manage the Star Trek brand now) will exert major influence here, and they reuse titles all the time, even when shows are direct continuations. So forget whatever prenotions you have. It's a new team that don't give two fucks. That's why I said people should make NOISE now if they're really worked up. Otherwise it will be finalised.

this is getting silly. even by my standards, which are somewhere in the Silly Putty range. anyway I have a golf tee time with with a certain real actor.. I don't want to name drop but you may have heard of Javid Iqbal. We'll discuss Nickelodeon managing the entire star trek brand later, over brunch with Brian Brophy. Ta ta.

I can only hope that millions of Star Track fans come together to protest this and make noise and stand around Nickelodeon with vuvuzelas yelling that they want Pinwheel reruns back or whatever it was we're talkign about. The title of the new series is Star Trek Dusty's Treehouse.

The general audience probably don't know Star Trek - Enterprise (2001 - 2005) at all. The hardcore fans would know the difference between Enterprise 2001-2005 and Enterprise 2021 - 2025. So I don't think anyone would be confused.

Star Trek - Enterprise is 20 years old. The name Enterprise is a very big thing. I wouldn't call it impossible for CBS to call this new Pike show Enterprise.

Just my opinion of course, but I just have such a hard time wrapping my head around the decision to call the new series "Star Trek: Enterprise" when they could call it literally anything else that they haven't already used. I feel like any recognizability they gain from using the word "Enterprise" is off-set by the confusion of it being the exact same title as a previous spin-off that it has nothing to do with.

Stranger things have happened though, so I guess we'll see. At the end of the day it's just a show and I'll still watch it because I'm a Trek fan, but it just seems like a questionable business decision to me.

There weren't any Pike toys. It was artwork of the "Discoprise" with the TOS crew, for Nickelodeon's stand. It'll make an appearance again at the next trade show.

Ahem, you said “brand-new concept art of the Enterprise at the Nickelodeon stand.” Your implication being that it was concept art for the upcoming Nickelodeon animated series. The Discoprise design has been known for two years. Of course no one bothered with it.

Who will it confuse? The general audience? I doubt it. Enterprise is a 20 year old show, that almost no one watched. Most of the general audience won't know about this one at all.

The hardcore fans? I doubt that either. The fans will know the difference between the Archer show and the Pike show.

The hardcore fans would have known the difference between the Enterprise-E and some other random Sovereign-class starship. The general audience wouldn't have given two rat turds in a rain-barrel about it. Nevertheless, that didn't stop corporate executives from mandating that the E-E shouldn't be seen anywhere near DS9's Dominion War, despite the obvious presence of impenetrable plot armor, for fear of "confusing" the fans (an insulting assumption by any metric). This is not the first time it's happened and it won't be the last, despite the fact that it's a whole new crew running the show now. Many an executive has expressed similar lesser opinions with regard to the general intellect of the fandom.

Of course we would know the difference. At the end of the day, I agree that, with all the possible titles they could go with, calling an entirely new show "Star Trek: Enterprise" only demonstrates (almost to an axiom level) how thoroughly bland, boring, lazy and unoriginal Hollywood has become and does a potentially great show an equally great, if greater, disservice.

In short - it's fucking stupid to call it "Enterprise". Do better!

Why should they do better if it works?

I'm not saying I think people are going to be standing in front of their CBS All-Access menu screens scratching their heads about which show to watch...it just seems like an unnecessary wrinkle when they could call it something new and fresh, and something that's not tied to one of the least popular Trek spin-offs (nothing against those who love Enterprise, every show is somebody's favorite - just saying that it's not one of the more "beloved" spin-offs).

Then why didn't they call "Star Trek: Picard" "Star Trek: The Next Generation (Seasion 8)"?

'Cause it's stupid.
Did I say it wasn't stupid?

I asked why they should do better?

If Picard succeeds and demonstrates that people are willing to buy that change then maybe, just maybe, they will do better. But telling them to "Do better!" without demonstrating that there is a reward for doing better is not helpful.

Did I say it wasn't stupid?
Didn't say you did.
I asked why they should do better?
BECAUSE IT'S STUPID!

Calling a new show "Enterprise", that is - still a completely unconfirmed notion, BTW. Even the mere suggestion of it defies good sense.

Even mice with brains the size of a flower seed can learn from their past mistakes. And anyone who thinks they've reached the pinnacle of their own profession, proudly exclaiming, "I have achieved absolute perfection!!!" with zero room for any kind of substantive improvement is a five-star bullshit peddler.

Do you really believe this shit you're saying or just a serial contrarian? We have enough of those on this BBS and it got old 20 years ago.

Do better.

BECAUSE IT'S STUPID (calling a new show "Enterprise")!
Yes, it is stupid. But, this decision wasn't made by the same people who made Enterprise originally, so not sure what lesson they are supposed to learn.
Do you really believe this shit you're saying or just a serial contrarian?
Yes.
Because telling people to do better without showing them how to do better is pointless. Nostalgia sells, for good, for bad, and for everything in between.

'Nuff said.

Calling a new Star Trek show set aboard the original Enterprise, Enterprise isn't that illogical to me. Though I prefer Star Trek - NCC 1701.
