Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Star Trek: 1701 is the best title I can think about for this as well. I really hope that if and when this gets greenlit, they don't just go for the nostalgia factor and rehash the old formulas of the previous Star Trek series and manage to avoid both a "Pike does [insert classic Trek episode here]" and a Discovery-style universe-ending crisis-of-the-year as well. I don't really need (or even want, to be honest) a sole focus on exploring strange new worlds, they can also get involved in various plots on the frontier, maybe some plots by the Orion Syndicate or the Klingons to undermine the Federation there, I'm not picky. I'd even enjoy some crossovers with the Section 31 series if it meant Pike having to clean up their mess. Just make the stories interesting, the characters good, have some character development and a myth arc to about the same degree DS9 had, and I'd be happy.

Random trivia...that´s what TAS used to be called when it first aired in Germany.
German episode titles were hilarious! Dagger of the mind? The centralnervoussystemmanipulator! XD
The German TAS title and The Orville made me think that The Enterprise would be a fitting title for a Pike show.

Many titles used to be direct quotes from the episodes...often totally unrelated to the episodes topic or overly descriptive. For example.."Where no man has gone before" somehow turned into "Top of the iceberg", and I think "Lights of Zetar" was "Beams(Rays) attack"

But sometimes they also were a bit more poetic than the original ones. Instead of the overused title "Sanctuary" they called that DS9 episode "Eye of the universe". My favourite "title switch" in the german "translation" isn't a ST episode, but an episode of Babylon 5: "Sons and daughters of Earth" instead of the profane "Endgame".

To be fair, those examples are in the minority...

The Hungarian translators can get just as weird... for some unfathomable reason, they decided to translate In a Mirror, Darkly as "Parallel Reality".

With Discovery and Picard both leaning heavily into the serialized format, it would be great to use Pike's crew to do a series that was much more episodic. Maybe 2-3 parters at most if a story wants to be told that way, but it would give a nice mix of short and long format Trek stories.

One thought I had is it seems to me in The Cage they talk about how Orion women were sold as slaves, but there is no mention of this in any later episodes which deal with Orions and Orion women. Perhaps Pike was able to put an end to this practice.

Star Trek: Number One.
She's actually the star, Pike's a supporting character.
I'd love it. It could either end with her finally getting her first own command, or it could even continue into her own captaincy for a few extra seasons. She could be given her very own Connie or perhaps a TOS-era Miranda.

They are so enamored because he reminds him of the Good old days. So, Star Trek: The Good Old Days.

I'm enamored with him because he's a geat actor who also happens to be massively attractive. I honestly don't care about "good old Star Trek days", I'm not even a Trekkie. I just want more Anson Mount as Pike because he was so good in that role - he kept ME interested in Discovery, which was no small accomplishment. (I'd also want more Anson Mount as Cullen Bohannon even though I'm not a fan of Westerns either. I just think more Anson Mount is always good. lol) I do agree tho, a lot of people seem to equal a Pike series with "a show that will be like the Star Trek we know and want".

Imagine being a showrunner trying to come up with a unique concept for Star Trek (A coming of age story! A civilian drama!) only to have to settle for… the Pike show, with a template more or less established by DSC S2.

Why aren‘t fans clamoring for offbeat ideas as a matter of course? Is it because it‘s easier to build common expectations around the obvious thing (like a Captain Sulu series seemed like the show to make in the 1990s)? There are resources that can be spent one way or another, so why do that on this principle of “Hold it… there, now that was good, don’t touch it and gimme three seasons.”
