Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

return of bubble shields, or just some tech thing of the day?

Looking forward to the Flash Gordon Captain Proton bits, but they should be grayscale.
Perhaps looking forward to the Dixon Hill holonovel (with an explanation for the 2360s grid)
Not at all looking forward to the ancient telephone story :ack:

Looks more 50s/60s than 30s/40s like Captain Proton. Especially the dayglow colors.

Might be a locked room mystery. More Christie than Chandler.
Is there a reason the grid needs an explanation? Why can't the tech just look the same?

Why? Might tie into the holodeck problem.

Everything needs an explanation. It is required by the first words of Roddenberry. In the TOS writer's Bible it said:

"Tell your story about people, not about science and gadgetry. Joe Friday doesn't stop to explain the mechanics of his .38 before he uses it; Kildare never did a monologue about the theory of anesthetics; Matt Dillon never identifies and discusses the breed of his horse before he rides off on it.

How much science fiction terminology do you want?
The less you use, the better. We limit complex terminology as much as possible, use it only where necessary to maintain the flavor of the show and encourage believability.
IMPORTANT: The writer must know what he means when he uses science or projected science terminology. A scattergun
confusion of meaningless phrases only detracts from believability."

Um, I'm sure they meant that differently in the 60s.

He does have medals like Trelane... Trelane was a Q in some of the licenced non-canon material.

So, how do we retcon if Kirk meets him now instead of later.

Trelane just makes everybody forget?
Or perhaps it's not Trelane to begin with?

Hair and sideburns recall Trelane as well.
Yeah and closer look, the medals, at least the ribbon parts, look identical except for the size
Left is Trelane, Right is maybe Trelane

Red White Red, White Red White, Green White Red

Who says Kirk is in the episode?

The issue would be Spock, Scotty and Uhura.

Maybe he just wipes their memories. Or some how all the TOS crew are just not on the ship for some reason lmao

I think I remember some people here (and reddit) saying he could easily play Trelane when his casting was announced lmao

Him being canonized as a 'Q' would certainly add an interesting twist.

Though it would be even weirder if it's Picard's Q in an earlier iteration.

Could explain that Q's fascination with humans.
